From Father Shawn Tunink, Parochial Vicar: During that short time of his public minis-try, Jesus went from being an unknown car-penter from Nazareth to attracting huge crowds everywhere he went. As he entered the most important week of his life, he seemed to be on top of the world. A huge crowd waved palm branches and even want-ed to make him their king. But then, almost overnight, it all fell apart. The huge crowds turned against him. His own apostles abandoned him. At his hour of greatest suffering on the cross, only a few faithful people were there. On the first Easter Sunday, there were no huge crowds and the Church had been reduced to a dozen or so remorseful followers hiding in fear. It hardly would have looked like the setting for the greatest event in the history of the world which was about to be revealed. Into the hidden upper room, filled with doubt and grief, the risen Jesus came and stood in their midst. “Peace be with you,” he said. From there, the peace of the new life of Jesus has gone out and spread to the entire world. We can never go back. But this Easter feels different than any other that we’ve ever experienced. There are no crowds gathered to celebrate. Like that first Easter, the crowds have contracted to our present situation of hiding in our homes in little groups. But unlike those first disciples, we do not hide in fear. Because Jesus has been raised from the dead, we need not fear a virus, or any other suffering. Death itself has been defeated. The Church confidently exclaims today, “Death, where is your sting? Hell, where is your victory?” This Easter we remain as small groups in our homes, not out of fear, but out of prudent compassion for the weak and vulnerable, that we not spread a life-threatening virus. But like the small Church gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem on that first Easter, our quaran-tine will end, and we too will burst back onto the streets with the good news of Jesus risen from the dead.

The first Easter did not come to crowds. It came to the solitary Mary Magdalene and then a handful of Apostles. From there it spread to the entire world. May this year’s unique Easter celebration draw our minds back to that first Easter. Alt-hough isolated and afraid, the Church was together with Mary on that day, waiting and hoping. The Church is gathered together on this Easter day as well. We cannot gather physically, but we are together. We are unit-ed by something much greater than physical presence. We are united in the sure knowledge that Jesus is risen from the dead and that his presence fills the world. Let us celebrate this great truth today in our domestic churches, as we look forward to the day when we will once again be able to proclaim on the streets what remains true always and everywhere,

“The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!

Alleluia!”

¡Aleluya!"

Confessions Update Confessions are heard Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm and Saturdays at 3:30 pm. Times may change as needed to protect the health of our priests and those coming to confession. The following guide-lines are in place: 1. You must confess behind a screen. 2. You must maintain the recommended distance

of 6-8 feet between yourself and anyone else. 3. You should wash your hands or use hand sani-

tizer before coming in or after leaving. 4. Please do not come if you have any symptoms

of illness. Offer a prayer of contrition to God (with genuine sorrow for your sins). He will for-give you. You can return to confession when you are healthy.

May you and your family be blessed with the peace and joy of Our Risen Lord! Happy Easter!

Queen of Heaven (Regina Caeli) prayed in place of the Angelus during Eastertide

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia. Has risen, as he said, alleluia. Pray for us to God, alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia. Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

During Daylight Hours The Church is open for private prayer during day-light hours. Please maintain a safe distance with anyone else who may be praying. It’s comforting to pray in the presence of our Eucharistic Lord. God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

Pope Francis’ Prayer to Mary during the Coronavirus Pandemic O Mary, you always shine on our path

as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,

who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman

People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee,

we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge,

Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every

danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Watching Mass Online or on TV? We suggest you consider memorizing this prayer because you can offer it at any time, even when this crisis passes. Below is the prayer for making a Spiritual Communion:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
