From Father Mark Mertes, Pastor:

For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him, to

reconcile to himself all things….. (Colossians 1.19)

Today the church year wraps up with our celebra-tion of Christ the King. When we speak of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNI-VERSE we are basically saying that whatever can be said about human existence is summed up in Jesus Christ. In him the fullness, the pleroma (in Greek) dwells. Fr. Richard Rohr explains plero-ma this way: Jesus is the blueprint for all reality! Jesus reveals the pattern of living, dying and liv-ing that is the essential pattern of all that exists. Whether we speak of molecules or galaxies, or personal relationships with God or family relation-ships with one another, everything follows the pat-tern of Christ’s dying on the cross and rising to new life. Did you know that researchers say that over about 7 years all the cells of our bodies are replaced? Each day, through the process of let-ting go and starting again, we are physically being made new. And certainly it is so in the spiritual life. May Christ, in whom all fullness dwells, bring each one of us to new and abundant life!

Liturgical Ministries Trainings

Father Mark Mertes, Pastor, invites all currently serving and those interested in serving in these ministries to very important trainings. SPECIAL MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION – Thursday, December 5 at 7 pm in Church USHERS AND GREETERS – Thursday, January 9 at 7 pm in Church

November is National Adoption Awareness Month.

As people of faith, we know adoption is a loving, beautiful way for a child to be welcomed into a family. We ask God to bless all of those whom adoption is a part of their life story – an adopted child or one waiting for their “forever home,” par-ents placing their child for adoption, adoptive fami-lies, couples in waiting, and those who have a loved one touched by adoption. Though there are trials and uncertainties involved in every adoption, our Catholic community needs to celebrate and share that adoption is a beautiful option!

have early deadlines due to the holidays!

Pancake Breakfast TODAY! The Knights of Columbus invite you to enjoy a

wonderful breakfast this Sunday from 8-11 a.m. in the Parish Center. All are welcome!

to so many for supporting our vendors!

Angel Trees The Social Concerns Ministry is collecting gifts for those in our parish who need assistance for Christ-mas. Angels listing suggested gifts are on trees at all Church entrances. The angels identify age and gender of a specific family member and items re-quested. Please select a gift and return the un-wrapped gifts by December 15 with the angel at-tached to the gift. Boxes for the gifts will be at each entrance of the Church. It is very important that your gift has the angel attached so that we may correctly identify the recipient. Gift cards and mon-etary donations should be placed in an envelope other than your weekly offering envelope, marked Christmas Appeal and placed in the collection. Please do not put gift cards in the boxes at the en-trances of Church. Thank you for your generosity in helping others have a wonderful Christmas.

St. Patrick School St. Nicholas Stroll Project St. Patrick School is working with the Social Con-cerns Ministry for parishioners who are in need. School students are planning a St. Nicholas Stroll on the feast day of St. Nicholas, December 6. Stu-dents will collect pledges for their stroll. Older stu-dents will walk in the cemetery (weather permit-ting), and the little ones (including Early Education Center) will walk in the gym. All are invited to watch or stroll with us! Proceeds will go to the Social Con-cerns Ministry for those who need help this Christ-mas. The Christmas trees will be up in Church as usual, however, there will also be envelopes to take to make a donation. The envelopes can be dropped in the collection basket or sent to school. Please join us for this fun day! God bless you all!

Advent Food Drive: Truck Here December 7-8

Grocery bags will be distributed next weekend, No-vember 30 and December 1 after each Mass for the Advent Food Drive. If you want to help reach our parish goal of collecting 3,000 pounds of food for Catholic Charities food pantries, please take a bag and fill it up with needed food items on the list. Bring your filled grocery bags back during each Mass on December 7 & 8. Catholic Charities will have their truck parked in the main entrance park-ing lot; volunteers will be available during each Mass to accept food donations. Please provide on-ly food items that are needed on the list and please no expired food items. The Social Concerns Minis-try also needs several volunteers to help sort and load food on the truck during Masses on December 7 & 8. If you want to help with this Advent project, e-mail Paula Frost, [email protected] or Katie Macke at [email protected]. Thank you for your support of this blessed Advent project.

Invitation to Taizé Prayer You are invited to Taizé prayer on Thursday, De-cember 5 at 7 p.m. in Annunciation Chapel on the campus of the Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, 4200 S. 4th Street, Leav-enworth, Kan. Please Refrain From Leaving Mass Early The Lord is so generous to us. He gives us an entire week in which to love our families, work, pursue our interests and so forth. He asks us for a small fraction of that time in return. Please fulfill your obligation to attend Sunday Mass by arriving at least a few minutes early in order to prepare your hearts for Christ and by staying until the end of the Mass. It is very distracting to others to have so many leave before the Mass is ended. When you receive Holy Communion, you are a living tabernacle. Jesus is present within you! Please spend time with Him in the Church. This is a precious time when Jesus can really speak to your heart. If you head immediately to your car, you will miss these precious moments with Christ. If you do need to leave early because of ill-ness, care of a loved one, work or some other se-rious reason, that should be an exception, not your weekly practice. May God bless you for your faithfulness to the Sunday Mass. How blessed we are to be able to worship the Lord together, in communion with Him.

Your Child’s Baptism To have your baby baptized, please contact Mrs. Theresa Smith, [email protected] or 913-299-3370. Parents are asked to attend a baptism preparation class with Mrs. Smith, scheduled at your convenience, if this is their first child to be baptized or if it’s been more than 2 years since the baptism of their last child. There are no fees for the class or baptism. It’s helpful to schedule your class before your baby is born as the Church encourages parents to have their children bap-tized as soon as possible. Giving your child the gift of a spiritual foundation is an eternal gift!

Oops—Last week, if the Total Collection Year-To-Date number looked about $9,000 larger and the budget deficit looked smaller, it was my mistake. I left the Ice Cream Social profit on the year-to-date side two weeks in a row. I caught the mistake and this week’s numbers are corrected. My apologies. Thank you for the generosity of your prayers and the generosity of your finances. Thank you to the Holy Spirit whose guidance helped me find the
