The Ecostructure project implements a new superimposed structure to the city of Milan which enriches the biodiversity serving both men and animals likewise.

It growes along a predetermined axis through Milan adapting to the given circumstances in the urban fabric. For this reason we employed the metaphor of the parasite that conqueres the space.

The mentioned axis which presets the route of the Ecostructure is derived from the idea to create an opposing, perpendicular system to the existing cultural axis of Sempione.

The proposal comprises apart from the general rules for the parasite structure a series of spatial solutions for significant “loci” f.e. Piazza Duomo, Torre Galfa, Viale Gioia etc. along the new axis, that connects two important ecosystems of Milan - the Naviglio della Martesana and Naviglio Grande.

In terms of featured functions the ecostructure hosts a broad range of activities serving animals, as well as men by means of four spatial modules that are embedded into the general construction described above.

The Installation

In the installation for the exhibition at the Museum of Natural History we decided to focus on one of the most important finding in the course of the design process of the Ecostructure: There are not only a big diversity of dimensions to be found in the project but also different perceptions of one and the same element. All depends on the point of view: wheather it is an insect, a bird or a human.

Ecostructure è una nuova idea di superstruttura, che riporta la biodi-versità a Milano, creando spazio vi-vibile per persone e animali.

Ecostructure cresce lungo un’asse at-traverso la città di Milano, adattando-si alle circostanze del contesto e del tessuto urbano. Per questa ragione il comportamento si può descrivere at-traverso la metafora del parassita che conquista lo spazio.

Ecostructure segue un asse perpendi-colare all’asse del Sempione, caratte-rizzato da attività pubbliche e cultu-rali.

Il progetto segue una regola di occu-pazione parassita dello spazio, defi-nita da un comportamento frattale, e si concentra su diversi luoghi come Piazza Duomo, Torre Galfa, Viale Gioia per connettere due ecosistemi di Milano, il Naviglio della Martesa-na e il Naviglio Grande.

Ecostructure crea nuove funzioni per la città, accogliendo persone e anima-li a cui la struttura si adatta seguendo-ne le dimensioni.

The Installation

Nell’installazione si può notare uno degli aspetti più importanti della struttura. La struttura cambia dimen-sione a seconda di chi la deve abita-re, il progetto quindi assume infinite scale e può essere percepito in modi diversi. In realtà lo stesso elemento può essere percepito in infiniti modi diversi dalle diverse specie. Quindi anche l’installazione può essere vista come una parte reale del progetto che si comporta in modo parassita rispet-to al museo, oppure come un model-lo in scala. Lo stesso elemento viene percepito in modo diverso a seconda di chi lo osserva.
