Locality / geography

Join a group based on the fact that it is in your local community. Example- local soccer team as it is convenitely situated.Social benefit due to that your friends will also play because it is local.

Page 3: group formation

Gender.

Grouped according to whether we are male or female. It is based on how you act in your social community.Example sporting team, toilets, school.

Page 4: group formation

Shared interest / common goal.

Formed because group members have a particular interest such as a hobby, artistic or sporting talent and/or a common goal such as a church or a community fundraising groups.

Page 5: group formation

Security.

Being part of a group provides us with a sense of community.We also gain a feeling of security by participating in a group that has similar interests such as being an src member in our school community.

Page 6: group formation

Sexuality.

This may be formed based on a persons sexuality. Examples include a wide variety of gay and lesbian groups within the community.

Page 7: group formation

Specific needs.

Forms in responses to a particular need it may be temparay and the group stops when the need is met. Example volunteer group assisting in response to a natural disaster. More permenant groups based on specific needs include a play group for young children.

Social interactions.

Groups formed with the main goal of social interaction include a gathering at a party, work social club or a mothers group.

Culture.

A group may form from a particular culture to enjoy communicating in their native language, eating traditional foods and experience activities familiar to this culture.
