Junior Carnival Information
• Dates: Tuesday 15th – Tuesday 22nd January
• Location: Sydney
• Ages: 12-16 years (school years 6-10)
o minimum is 11 yrs + 9 mths (by January)

What Happens at Carnival?
• Sports days:
o Tournaments & Unstructured
• Social Events
o opening ceremony / dance parties,
beach/pool party / harbour cruise,
fun run / closing ceremony etc
• Community Day
• Shabbat (Friday night service)
ALL SPORTS & EVENTS ARE COMPULSORY
Sports
• Participants are not required to select tournament sport – it is an
option for those that want to play competitively
• This will take place in parallel with other sporting activities
• Teams will compete in netball, soccer, basketball, futsal, tennis &
biathlon (swim & run)
• Participants can select up to 2 of the above sports (with biathlon as
a 3rd option)
• Teams will be selected, taking into account the standard of the
participants current playing level
• Participants will need to advise the organising committee of their
current playing level and the division they play in
• Participants do not need to play for a current Maccabi club – there
is a spot for everyone!
Both competitive & participative sports will be offered
A Typical Day at Carnival
Morning: 9am / 9.30am arrive
• Sports/activities 10am-12.30pm
Lunch (provided) 12.30-2pm
• Relax in the chill-out zone
• More food/snacks & drinks available to purchase
Afternoon: sports/activities, 2-4pm
• Pick up 4pm/5pm
• Home to freshen up / shower / eat
Evening: Social function starting 7pm/8pm,
usually finishing by 9.30pm/10pm

• Communal Friday night service
• Saturday is a no-sport day and is a
chance for all participants to rest and
relax after a busy week
• Shabbat is spent with billets / families
• Social event - after Shabbat
Billeting
• Depending on numbers, a 1:1 billet/host ratio is usually applied
• You may arrange your own billet with a host family – please advise on
the registration form
• Other billeting requests will be considered, but will not be guaranteed
(multiples, medical etc)
• Include your request for ‘friends with friends’ when you register, but there
are no guarantees
• Billeting allocations based on:
o Gender / Age / Shomer Shabbat / Kashrut / Sports
• All participants are expected to stay with Carnival host families in Sydney,
not with families/households outside of Carnival (family/relatives included).
• Every adult in the host household will be required to submit a valid
working with children check
• The billeting manager has absolute discretion to make decisions
as best fits the billeting policy.
Billeting – Sydney host families
Billeting is a special experience which is unique to Carnival
and we want everyone to experience this opportunity
• Every home to host a billet (extenuating circumstances apply)
• For host homes - a parent must be home throughout carnival
• Every adult in the host household will be required to submit a
valid working with children check
• The billeting manager has absolute discretion to make decisions
as best fits the billeting policy
• All participants are expected to attend all Carnival events
Costs
There are 3 separate components..
• Registration Fee - $699 (early-bird)
Increases to $799 from August 1st
• Airfare (Team VIC) – $290
• Uniform – $100
Includes 2 x polo, 1 x shorts, 1 x cap, 1 x travel-tee

• Early Bird price - $699 (until end of July 2018)
• From 1st August the price increases to $799
• Sibling discount of 5% for 2nd/3rd children from same family
• Registration closes 30 November 2018
• Meals: Price includes 4 lunches / 2 dinners
• Billet/host families to provide breakfast & dinner as required
• Fees cover insurance, local transportation for excursions
plus a daily north-east shuttle service

Airfare
• $290 for a seat on the group flight (return)
• Otherwise, can book your own travel to/from
Sydney
We encourage all participants to fly with the team
as Team VIC Management supervision will be
provided on the team flight.
Uniforms
• Uniforms are the same as previous years
• can use from friends/relatives
• Costs - $100
• Includes:
• 2 x polo, 1 x shorts, 1 x cap, 1 x travel-tee
• Uniform pickup – Final Info Night (to be confirmed)
• Additional items available on day of pickup
• Polo $30 / Shorts $25 / Caps $7/ Travel-tee $10
Please note: Specialist sports equipment such as
football boots, basketball shoes, mouthguards, tennis
racquets etc must be brought by participants
Financial Assistance
At Maccabi, we don’t want anyone to miss out on Carnival.
Financial assistance is available –

Payment plans (option to pay in instalments) also available –
• Select this option during registration
For all subsidy/payment plan requests, payment is not necessary at
point of registration – complete the form and select ‘Special
Arrangement’ to defer payment until later.
Travel Arrangements
• 15th Jan 2019 (Melb - Syd) – departing 10am
• 22nd January 2019 - (Syd - Melb) – departing 12 pm
• Team Management & Youth leaders will travel with the team
• Recommendation – all participants within Group Booking
• Alternate travel arrangements/bookings are possible (e.g points
booking or separate flight – must notify team management)
o For these arrangements, appropriate meeting/drop-off points
will be organised with parents
Registration
• Step 1 - online registration through the Maccabi website
(MyMacc account is required) www.maccabi.com.au
• Payment
o at time of registration (credit card), or
o select ‘Special arrangement’ to defer payment
• Register but not pay (pending fee assistance)
• Pay by EFT
• Pay the registration fee in installments (EFT)
• For all fee assistance requests, separate form must be submitted
• Step 2 – CareMonkey - medical information and Sport selection
details captured separately via Care Monkey platform
Cancellation
Cancellation Policy
• Cancellations before 30 November incur admin fee of $60
• Cancellations after 30 November but before 15 December
incur admin fee of $120
• Cancellations after 15 December will be assessed on a case
by case basis.
• No refund on uniforms (once collected)
Safety, Security, Medical
The security and health of all participants at
Carnival is our top priority
• Safety & Security
• All security aspects being worked through with CSG
• Appropriate pick up and drop off at all venues
• ID tags to be worn at all times
• Medical
• Hatzolah has been engaged to provide first aid
• Use of Care Monkey – please declare all relevant
conditions to allow us to provide appropriate level of care
(not to be used for exclusion purposes)
• Hot weather policy – if 36ºc or above then sport called off,
kids will be supervised in an appropriate/cool environment.
Member Protection & Code of Conduct
• Must be read and agreed to by participants and parents by
checking the box (online registration form)
• All participants must comply with Code of Conduct
• Billeting
• Smoking, Alcohol and Illegal drugs Policy, new caffeine
policy (energy drinks)
• Weapons
• Personal violence and bullying / cyber bullying
• Serious offenses will result in children being sent home at
your expense
• Code of Conduct can be located, read and printed from the
Registration site
• Each adult in the billeting house required to have a valid
working with children check
