SCENARIO ITERATION 1. We did an itera,on a.er the
assignment two. We conducted addi, onal contextual interviews and built our affinity diagram again.
2. We came up with 6 new scenarios. And categorized them into students and professors.
3. However due to the ,me limita,on we just select 4 scenarios from the student prospec,ve to redesign our app.
Affinity Diagram Student Professor
They need to organize their assignment, learning materials to manage their time more efficiently.
They want to take notes
druing class
They need to get updated
announcement in advance
They want to contact with professors privately
It is difficult to read learning materials on
mobile due to screen size (limitation)
Professors have to motivate students to
discuss after class
Professors have to share
updated information with
students
She thinks BB is misleading
sometime find assignment forlder or discussion board
She finds her workload is okay but she has time
management problem
She uses apple pages to
take notes during class
She thinks the information on BB is useful
She prefers to ask questions privately rather than posting it on discussion
board
She uses big screen or
printed version to read
The reason why Bernard doesn't use dicussion
board is there is no data for him
to evaluate students'
activeness
Professor Chen sents out
assignment through email
She gets info from BB, wordpress, or any platform the professor uses.
Time management is hard for her
She uses handwriting
notes, iPad, or take pictures to take notes
She will check the
annoucement on BB
everyday
Learning reflection should be kept privately
She does not read learning materials on
BB using phone, screen
limitation
Professor Chen felt students
were not active in discussion board so she doesn't use it
anymore.
Professor uses email to give
announcements
She gets learning materials from BB &
Mobile phones help her to
organize her study plan/ to-do list
I print out learning
materials and take class notes on it
She checks BB once a week
for annoucement & lecture PPT
She does not like to ask
questions in public because she worries to
ask stupit questions
She does reading on iPad
Pro. Chen gives grades to
student on blackboard
She always searches class info & learning materials
online
Arranging class schedule is
important for her
She uses phone to obtain
in-time information and annoncements
She likes to ask questions
through email with professor
She always read on PC
Professor Chen received
assignments through email
She prints out learning materials after download it
IM Apps are fast to get
responses from professor
She uses email to contact with professor to
make an appointment
She does not read on mobile phone because
of the small screen
She uses phone to acquire on-time
information
4 NEW SCENARIOS
Organize and find assignments requirements
Get announcement quick and fast
Privately contact with professors
Efficiently take notes during class
BRAINSTORMING
Conduct brainstorming with QR Code team
Problems and users’ needs found from contextual interview were discussed: How to protect students’ privacy on blackboard How to make sure users to get no+fica+ons in-‐+me How to mo+vate students to par+cipate in discussion
board ac+vely How to meet students’ needs to take notes in class How to meet students’ needs to organize tasks well so that they won’t miss deadline
AFFINITY DIAGRAM We did Affinity Diagram a.er Brainstorming and storyboard to organize all valuable ideas and solu, ons

A.er brainstorming, storyboards and the affinity diagram building, we draw 2 solu,on storyboards.

ITERATION
We then discuss again about the solu,on storyboards in group , raise some problems and op,mize our design of the app.
2 FINAL STORYBOARDS PER SCENARIO A.er itera,on we finally come up with 2 final storyboards. These storyboards help us to make the low-‐fi prototype.
CARD SORTING
In the itera,on process, we also did a card sor,ng to determine the most important func,on to show on our homepage. We ask people to rank the most important 6 func, ons. And categorize the same func, ons.

DETAILS
• Our team came up with 6 solu+ons in terms of each scenario • Narrow them down to 2 solu+ons for crea+ng Lo-‐Fi Prototype.
First Round Usability Test with 10 People.
We conduct the first round Usability Test with 10 people, and collect feedback from them about the draZ design.
Each par+cipant is given 4 tasks according to the scenarios. AZer finishing tests, they will pick one be[er solu+ons for each task, and provide us some sugges+ons.
1ST Usability Test
USABILITY QUESTION 1. You have to check an unread announcement of a course.
2. The semester is approaching the end, you have to finish your assignment quickly. You want to check the assignment’s requirements and deadlines of COMM5980 & COMM6940, and arrange the +me schedule on your calendar on phone.
3. You have some ques+ons about the course of ICTs, but you cannot find the professor at the office. Therefore, you decide to ask ques+ons on Blackboard privately since you are afraid of asking stupid ques+ons which makes you embarrassed in front of other classmates.
4. You are taking the course of ICTs and want to write down some notes on digital PPTs which enables your to review in a convenient way.
TASK INSTRUCTION
ORGANIZE
SOLUTION I (Asignment) PROS 1) It is good because users can see course
requirement clearly 2) Can export to your mobile’s calendar
because users can see everything in their calendar
Cons 1) Edit bu[on is not necessary 2) Select +me is not necessary because users can simply scroll down the page 3) No “mul+ple select” in front of the course names for clear expression
1ST Usability Test
ORGANIZE
SOLUTION II (Asignment) Cons 1) “+” bu[on is misleading 2) The colour bu[ons are not necessary 3) Users may simply use a notepad to add tasks rather than in the calendar because it is not necessary
1ST Usability Test
High-fi Prototype
Optimize the function and interface desgin -- Take 「Privacy」for example
Add>> · on-line display function · unified format on the top · additional page for ‘Cancel’ · title bar for contact message Remove>> · private contact in ‘discussion board’ section · choices for ‘Private to lecturer’ and ‘Open to public’ · courses classification section
2ND USABILITY TEST
• Check course announcement • Check assignment’s
requirement & deadline • Contact with professor • Take notes during class
USER GOAL
VOLUNTEER USERS
• Five volunteer users • Three female & Two Male • Four postgraduates & One
undergraduates from CUHK
2ND USABILITY TEST
• Same as the 1st round ques+ons
• Comple+on rate • Time of Errors • Clear Content categoriza+on • Complete +me • Emo+on
