Back to Iowa I am so excited to share with you that God has called me (and my family) to return to a place that is very dear to my heart—East Iowa Bible Camp (EIBC). My family and I accepted the call to take the position of Camp Director beginning full-time this coming August. Taking this posi- tion, I will be returning to my home state and my home camp. Growing up I participated in EIBC’s summer programming as a camper from 3rd grade through high school, and then worked on summer staff three sum- mers during my college years. EIBC played a significant role in my spiritual development as a student which has helped shape who I am now. I believe God has used the last nine years work- ing with NMSI to uniquely equip me to lead the camp I have loved since childhood. Founded in 1942, EIBC is a year-round camp and retreat facility with a rich history of facilitating family ministry, Christian retreating, and ministry to all ages of youth and adults in the region of east-central and south eastern Iowa. Recognizing the Church is at the center of God’s mission, EIBC exists to serve as a resource of the Church, not a replacement for it. Christian camping has played a huge role historically in facilitating a distinctive and fruitful environment for encoun- tering Christ. The leadership of EIBC feel strongly that God will continue to use the camp to aid in carrying forth the marching orders of Jesus Christ in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). As director, I will have general over- sight of the entire work of EIBC, and we have pledged a five-year commitment. We truly believe God has called our family to minister at camp and pray five years will be just the beginning. As we look ahead to this transition, the most exciting aspect to Ginny and I is getting back involved in youth ministry. Not to mention—what a great place to raise two boys! Finishing up with Habitat for Hope This last December represented four years in Memphis working with Habitat for Hope. We have many amazing memories of our time here and feel honored to have played a part in helping a brand new ministry (HFH started in Memphis in 2006) expand and grow. The range of ministry experience we were able to participate in here has certainly given us a lot of practical knowledge to carry on to what God has called us to next. There is a family of 11 staying in one of HFH apartments right now. This family was stationed in Germany while dad was serving as an army chaplain in Afghanistan. Their 13-year old son was diagnosed with a brain tumor while overseas and now they are staying on the HFH property. I’ve gotten the opportunity to have many special conversations with the dad and have been doubly blessed by several of the children wanting to be my big helpers as I work around the property. They’ve helped me wash rocking chairs, install new door hardware, assemble picnic tables, and much more. Every once in awhile we take a break to give pushes on the tree swing. Getting to know these special families HFH ministers to will be missed.
