Ms. Lhotka’s and Mr. Chito’s study skills students took a field trip to clean up localbeaches. In spite of ten degree temperatures, students found and recoveredseveral large bags of marine debris, while learning about the impacts of nurdles, bits of plastic that are part of the manufacturing process and often escape into themarine environment, and the theory of multiple intelligences. One student said thefollowing: “Trash on the beach is marine debris. I feel like we used naturalisticintelligence. The marine debris we found on the beach was a lot of plastic and it wasnot easy to find.”
