Yet income remains a barrier to broadband access in the home and creates unequal opportunities for students to engage in digital learning beyond the school day. According to a report from the Pew Research Center, 5 million households with school-age children do not have high-speed internet service at home. Low-income households make up a disproportionate share of these households. It's not only an academic imperative to create more equitable access for these children, it's a moral imperative as well. Fortunately, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is working to modernize the federal Lifeline program to include access to broadband for low-income families. Currently, Lifeline provides a discount on monthly telephone service to eligible low-income households, but it does not provide support for broadband access. The experiences and resources that students have access to outside of school matter. Broadband access at home provides students with opportunities to complete school assignments at home, engage in course offerings that might not be provided at school, and explore college and career options. Students who lack this access are at a disadvantage. In Seminole County Public Schools we prioritize and believe in the value of digital learning. We are leaders in the Future Ready Schools initiative, an effort to maximize digital learning opportunities and help school districts move quickly toward preparing students for success in college, a career, and citizenship. As we continue the learning transformation of students as receivers of a finite set of Walt Griffin, Ed.D Superintendent

Dear Parent or Guardian,

As you know, the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) Vaccine is a required

immunization in the State of Florida for your child to enter the 7th and we would like

to invite your child to participate in our Tdap in School Vaccination Program. We

encourage all families to see their primary care physician for this immunization as

soon as possible and provide the official 680 form of documentation to your school.

However, if you have not or are not planning to see your primary care physician for

this vaccination, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to

receive the Tdap Vaccination at your school.

A Tdap consent form is attached to this letter, and on the reverse side of the consent

form is the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Vaccine Information Statement with

information about the Tdap Vaccine. The Tdap vaccination clinics will occur at your

child’s school on one of the following dates, May 9 – 12th. Please check the district or

your school website for specific clinic dates and times.

Tdap vaccination is federal REQUIREMENT for your child to enter into the 7th

grade!

The inoculation is made possible at each SCPS middle school through the collaboration

and support of the Seminole County School District, Seminole County Department of

Health, and most importantly your school nurses; who work every day to take care of

your child’s health needs. Please join us in keeping the community healthy and safe, as

well as ensuring that your child is able to enter the 7th grade without delay on the first

day of school this fall.

Please remember this is a REQUIRED vaccine for 7th grade attendance. If you would

like your child to participate in this convenient and cost free program at school, please

be sure to complete and sign the attached consent form and return it to your child’s

school by May 3, 2016.

Thank you,

Tony Boselli & the Healthy Schools Team
