September 2015September 2015September 2015September 2015
Greetings Queensmillers!
Membership: Everyone will get the Queensmiller in September and
October. If you pay your $50 dues (the form is in your newsletter)
you will continue to receive them by either email or paper copy (we
hope you’ll take the email copy). Please support your neighborhood.
Your support maintains the entrances, handles covenant issues,
provides at least two social events per year, at least one child
event per year, and produces this newsletter, The Queensmiller.
Please support QCA by joining. There is a page later in this
edition of The Queensmiller telling what we do for the community.
Please consider a Board position if you want a more active role. We
currently are most in need of someone to fill the Secretary
position. This individual primarily records the minutes of our
meetings, 10 per year. Thank you Greg for your hard work and
dedication to our neighborhood. Your service is much appreciated. I
hope you know you are appreciated. To our neighbors I hope someone
will step up to help us with the Secretary position asap. The Board
is an amicable group that’s easy to get to know. We no longer have
the long meetings that you may have heard about, and some of the
meetings are really fun. If you really would like to do a position
that is already filled, feel free to inquire about it; the
incumbent may want to swap to another position with less work.
Who’s got the Best Chili On The Block? Come to the Chili Cook Off
to find out. Either enter your Chili or just come to enjoy other’s
favorites. It will be a great social event (more information to
follow in this newsletter). If you have never participated in the
Midlothian Day Parade you still have plenty of time. It’s a really
big deal and a great time to be had. And as we wind down the summer
and start hoping for Fall weather, please continue this theme:
FAMILY. Creating memories for you and your family may be the
greatest gift you can give yourself. Don’t miss an opportunity to
tell someone you care about you love and appreciate them. If it
were not for my family I would have nothing. Create those memories
people. In closing, I would like to acknowledge a longtime friend,
neighbor, and QCA Board member, Bob Woehrle. I thank him for his
kindness, wisdom, and service. He may have left this earth, but he
remains in my heart.

“TOTAL QUALITY LOGISTICS” OF CINCINNATI, OHIO HAS OPENED ITS
FIRST VIRGINIA SALES
OFFICE AT 9011 ARBORETUM PARKWAY, SUITE 390, NORTH CHESTERFIELD.
THE COMPANY,
WHICH CONNECTS CUSTOMERS NEEDING TO MOVE FREIGHT WITH CARRIERS
THAT HAVE THE
CAPACITY TO MOVE IT. THEY PLAN TO CREATE 50 TO 75 NEW JOBS IN
CHESTERFIELD OVER THE
NEXT THREE YEARS.
I RECENTLY ATTENDED THE VILLAGE OF MIDLOTHIAN VOLUNTEER
COALITION MEETING
WHERE JOSH WALLS OF “ALDI” COMPANY PRESENTED A REVISED PLAN FOR
THE CORNER OF
MIDLOTHIAN TPK. AND LE GORDON DRIVE/WINTERFIELD RD., ACROSS FROM
THE “KROGER
STORE”. ONE OF THE CHANGES WAS FROM A PLAIN CONTINUOUS EXTERIOR
WALL TO ONE OF
RECESSED AND EXTENDED AREAS THUS GIVING TEXTURE AND VARIETY TO
THE FRONTAGE ON
MIDLO.TPK. THEY SHOWED A HIGHLY DEVELOPED LANDSCAPE PLAN, A
COFFEE SHOP, AND A
DEPRESSED TRUCK UNLOADING DOCK SHIELDED WITH A WALL, NORTH OF
THE STORE. THERE
WILL BE A PUBLIC MEETING TO SHOW THE PLAN TO EVERYONE ON
SEPT.10TH. THE LOCATION
WAS NOT DETERMINED - I WILL ANNOUNCE IT IN AN E-MAIL FROM THE
Q-M EDITOR. THE ‘ALDI”
STORES ARE OWNED BY THE ALBRECT FAMILY – THE PARENT COMPANY.
THEY ALSO OWN
“TRADER JOE’S”. THERE WAS ALSO DISCUSSION OF THE CROOK NECK
LIGHTS THAT ARE
THROUGHOUT THE VILLAGE. THE STORE WILL HAVE ALL HOUSE BRANDS AND
CHARGE A
QUARTER FOR THE CART – WHICH WILL BE RETURNED AT THE END OF THE
SHOPPING TIME.
(GUESS THEY DO NOT TRUST US TO RETURN THE CART.) MANY OF THE
PRODUCTS WILL BE SOLD
OUT OF CARDBOARD BOXES. THE BUILDING IS ONLY 18,000 SQ.FT.
ACTUALLY A VERY SMALL
GROCERY STORE COMPARED TO MARTIN’S AT 80,000 AND THE EXPANDED
KROGER AT 150,000. IT
WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE PUBLIC MEETING GOES AND ALSO
THE VOTE OF THE
PLANNING COMMISSION AND BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.
WE HAVE SEEN GREAT PROGRESS IN THE WEGMAN’S GROCERY STORE AND
OTHER PARCELS
ACROSS FROM THE SAM’S CLUB. THERE ARE WORKMEN AND TRUCKS AND
CRANES
EVERYWHERE. IT WILL BE VERY INTERESTING TO SEE THE PROGRESS!!
ALSO, A LOT OF WORK IS
BEING DONE ON THE BACK STORES – WHICH WE WILL LEARN ABOUT IN A
FUTURE ISSUE.
ALSO, IN THAT SAME AREA, IS THE ROAD WIDENING PROJECT BY VDOT.
THERE ARE TIMES WHEN
TRAFFIC IS DOWN TO ONE LANE EACH WAY AND SOMETIMES STOPPAGES FOR
A FEW MINUTES.
SO BE VERY CAREFUL AND REMEMBER THAT THE SPEED LIMIT IS LOWER IN
A CONSTRUCTION
ZONE.
THANKS FOR READING. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS –

Members Present: Bill Mason, George Strack, David Mathis, Marie
Strack, David Fisher, Terri Wemple, Mandy McDonough, Greg
Hopper
Members Not Present: Sean Sandridge, Charlyce Kowalchuk, Susan
Johnson, Lugene Fernald The meeting was held at the home of Dave
and Amy Fisher. The meeting was called to order by Bill at
7:20.
Board Actions:
1. George informed the board that he filed the IRS tax report
for 2014 and will be filing the IRS tax report for 2015 shortly.
QCA is a tax exempt organization, but still must complete a report
each year. The new tax year begins September 1
st. The treasurer’s report will be
included in the next Queensmiller. 2. George also relayed that
one controller on the irrigation system at the main entrance
was
rebuilt and rewired. 3. Dave Mathis passed around photos for
plans for the front entrance. 4. Marie will be scheduling some
plantings to fill in some of the holes at the front entrance
where plants need to be replaced. 5. Marie mentioned that the
new Wegmans store is under construction and the widening of
Midlothian Turnpike in the same area is underway. More civic
information will be included in the Queensmiller.
6. Dave Fisher reported that the National Night Out (NNO) event
held on August 4th was a
great success again this year. The Garden Club and some members
of the Mom’s Club attended, making the event even more of a
community affair. McGruff arrived a bit late with Queensmill being
the eighth stop. Dave stated that he would report that on the NNO
response form to the county.
7. Mandy is working on plans for a children’s social expected
during October. The Mom’s Club is on Facebook and growing with
about forty members currently. Contact Mandy for more
information.
-
8. Terri stated that there has been increased sales activity in
Queensmill with three
home sales pending and at least two others for sale at that
time. She will be catching
up on welcoming our new neighbors. Terri brought up a
consideration to the board
regarding the potential to include giveaway items (a QRA drink
koozie was
mentioned) to be included in the welcoming package. QCA used to
have giveaways
items, but no longer has them. At this time, no action was taken
by the board.
9. Greg resigned his secretary position on the board as of the
August meeting.
Board Discussion:
1. The board discussed whether an actual registry of pets is
really needed or desired in Queensmill. The board concluded that
the current process of sending a blast email to the neighborhood
for lost or found pets seems to be working. No change to this
process is planned for now.
2. The suggestion of having a car show in Queensmill was
discussed. Though QCA is not the originator of the idea, the
opportunity of coordinating with the originator to coincide with
the QCA Chili cook-off was discussed as a possibility.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:23
The next board meeting is scheduled for September 8, 2015, at the
home of Tom & Mandy McDonough, 1501 Darrell Drive. Respectfully
submitted, Greg Hopper, Secretary
Robert Clarence Woehrle, Jr.

Queensmiller for Sept/Oct 2015
1) This is the beginning of the QCA fiscal year. We run from
September through August, so it’s time to
renew our membership in QCA.
2) As always the September and October issues of the
Queensmiller are distributed to all Queensmill
residents. We hope that everyone will join QCA and continue to
receive the Queensmiller throughout
the year and to also support QCA’s mission to enhance and
maintain our neighborhood.
3) If you get the paper copy and if you want to also receive the
blast emails that we send out periodically,
then be sure to give us your email address. You will continue to
get the paper copy if you choose that
option, but additionally you will receive the blast emails.
These obviously are only available via email.
4) It is time for QCA to create a new neighborhood directory.
This is usually done every two years, but it
will be three this time because we can’t get a new directory out
before 2015. We will search county
records if necessary to ascertain ownership of properties for
which we do not have current information.
If you have not joined QCA recently, we probably don’t have
current information about your
household. QCA is requesting that if you don’t join QCA, please
complete the following short form and
return it to Charlyce Kowalchuk. Please note that this
information is only for the paper bound
directories that QCA distributes within Queensmill.
5) QCA needs to fill the Secretary’s position. Greg Hopper
resigned as Secretary in August. Greg was part
of the QCA Board for about 8 years as the Security person and
then as Secretary. We are all indebted to
him for his excellent service in both capacities. The Board
encouraged him to please stay, but Greg felt
it was time for him to move on. Thank-you, Greg, for a job well
done.
We need to fill all of our open Board positions, but the
Secretary position is most critical to the
recording and reporting of our meetings. Please contact any
Board member if you are interested in
helping us in this capacity. This is a voting position. We meet
once a month, 11 times per year. The
Secretary’s report is then sent to the Queensmiller for the next
month’s publication. The report is
usually 1-2 pages depending upon the spacing.
-
It is time to support your
Queensmill Civic Association
Help protect one of your most important investments…your
home.
The QCA serves an important purpose for our neighborhood.
• Promote spirit of belonging to the Queensmill community; • Be
the official spokesperson for our community; • Support public areas
in cooperation with QRA • Represent our community in matters coming
under county jurisdiction; • Be source of communication for our
neighborhood; • Maintain high level of appearance and value of our
neighborhood; • Promote safety in our neighborhood and in the
surrounding communities; • Sponsor social functions
We need YOUR support because you ARE important. Please pay your
dues and join today. Thank You.
You have the option of email delivery or home delivery of your
