Greenwood:  Transit  at  a  Crossroads

A  minor  change  to  the  proposed  service  change  would  make  a  night-‐and-‐day  difference  to  transit

service  in  our  neighborhood

Page 2: Greenwood Transit

Greenwood  is  one  of  11  designated  urban  villages  north  of  the  Ship  Canal  in  Sea<le’s  Comprehensive  Plan

Accordingly,  we  have  welcomed  significant  growth  over  the  past  two  decades

Page 3: Greenwood Transit

We  lack  direct  connecFons  to  key  nearby  desFnaFons.  Under  Metro’s  proposal,  we  would  lose  yet  another.

Metro’s  proposal  would  eliminate  current  Route  5  connecFon  to  Northgate  and  North  Sea<le  Community  College

•  Important  to  teenagers,    seniors,  students,  and    connecFon  to  regional  transit

We  have  no  direct  service  now  to  Ballard  or  Fremont

Transfers  to  Northgate  at  Greenwood  and  105th  would  be  unpleasant  and  inconvenient  Transfers  can  work  for  commute  trips  with  convenient  connecFons,  frequent  and  reliable  service  –  BUT,  –

They  are  a  major  disincenFve  to  transit  use  to  local  desFnaFons  for  everyday  non-‐work  trips.

ONE  SMALL  ROUTING  CHANGE  would  make  a  night  and  day  difference  to  transit  service  in  Greenwood  Proposed  change  would  run  Route  18  on  N  85th  instead  of  Holman  Rd  between  15th  NW  and  Greenwood  Ave  N

•  Provides  be<er  Northgate    connecFon

•  Provides  long-‐desired  direct  connecFon  to  Ballard  and  Fremont

Analysis:        -‐  Meets  Metro’s  objecFves        -‐  No  loss  of  service  on  Holman  Rd  Meet’s  Metro’s  objecFves:

•  Consolidates  and  strengthens  Route  5  north  of  Holman  Rd.

•  MiFgates  loss  of  unproducFve  Route  28  tail

•  Eliminates  confusion  by  having  two  tails  on  route  5

•  Northgate  tail  has  been  weak  due  to  part  Fme  operaFons  –  this  is  fixed

No  negaFve  impacts:

•  Holman  Rd.  would  have  RapidRide  service  on  affected  segment

•  No  lost  coverage  on  either  Holman  Rd.  or  N  105th  St.

•  Negligible  difference  in  travel  Fme  or  operaFng  cost

Summary

•  Please  consider  running  Route  18  on    N  85th  St.  between  15th  Ave.  NW  and  Greenwood  Ave.  N  •  If  not,  Please  don’t  sever  our  connecFon  to  Northgate,  as  imperfect  as  it  is
