Dear Greenmount families The end of term two is drawing close marking the halfway point of our school year. Teachers have completed Semester One student reports which will be sent home this Friday 27 th June. Please ensure that you read through the reports and discuss them with your child/ren with particular reference to any goals identified by teachers, and the effort and attitude demonstrated in each learning area. If you have any concerns or queries please arrange a time to discuss them with the classroom teachers. Staff Updates I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Ms Kristiina Harris and Mrs Beth Pollard who have been working so hard with the students of Rooms 4 and 6 respectively. We were fortunate to have Kristiina join us mid-year in 2013 when Mrs Sharon Marchenko took on a Deputy’s role at Helena Valley. She has proven to be a positive and dedicated member of our team, and we have learned from Kristiina’s willingness to share- particularly with her knowledge in IT. With Mrs Marchenko’s return next term, Kristiina’s contract work comes to an end, however, we are hopeful that we will continue to see her smiling face around the school in other roles. Thank you Kris! Mrs Dorothee Carr is also returning next term from her Long Service Leave. In her absence Mrs Beth Pollard has been working alongside Mrs Williams in Room 6 to ensure that the students were well supported in their learning program. Beth is well known to the staff and school community for her continuing and ongoing involvement with Greenmount Primary in many roles. Again, I’m sure that Beth will be back in some capacity as we all enjoy having her work with us! Thank you Beth. DANCE 2014…… Our Dance Program will be run in Term 4 this year. This is a whole school program that we conduct every two years and forms part of our PE program. Previously we have done daily lessons in two week blocks; however, this year we will use the Edu Dance program which involves students participating in one session per week over the term. The cost will be $23 for junior primary students and $27 for senior students. Edu Dance is an energetic dance program- which includes elements of hip hop- and culminates in a routine or performance at the end of the program. Dear Greenmount families

The end of term two is drawing close marking the halfway point of our school year. Teachers have completed Semester One student reports which will be sent home this Friday 27

th June.

In her absence Mrs Beth Pollard has been working alongside Mrs Williams in Room 6 to ensure that the students were well supported in their learning program. Primary in many roles. Again, I’m sure that Beth will be back in some capacity as we all enjoy having her work with us! Thank you Beth.

Mrs Astle has been collating data as part of our regular

process to monitor student behaviour throughout the school - and the

results are worth sharing. To date, there have only been 44 referrals to the

office. This is a notable improvement from previous years where there was

an average of around 80 per term.

In Mrs Astle’s words this is “the best ever!” Congratulations to all

students, staff and parents for working together to ensure we have a

positive, happy environment where we can learn together.

August 1st Census On August 1st we will be involved in a Census – one of two each year looking at student numbers and school facilities. As part of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disabilities (NCCD) we will also be asked to provide some details regarding students with learning needs in the school. Information about the different types of programs and resources the school uses to support children with special educational needs will be collected. Information provided does not identify the school or students, but provides the Federal Government with data on the number and nature of disabilities or learning needs in all Australian Schools and linked to ensuring an equitable distribution of Federal funding to states. For more information visit the follow-ing website: www.deewr.gov.au/students-disability

Incursion/Excursion Payments All payments for class excursions or school incursions should be made directly to class-room teachers and not through the front office – this is part of the financial guidelines outlined by the Department of Education. Correct change will also be returned via the classroom teacher. Thank you for your cooperation.

Good Luck Flynn Warner Stanton has been selected to compete in the National Fencing Champion-ships in Sydney. He will be competing in the under 15’s and 17’s – remarkable given that Flynn is 11! Good luck Flynn.

Kindergarten and Pre Primary Applications for Kindergarten and Pre Primary 2015 are being taken at the front office. Please make sure that all forms and documentation are submitted before 31st July. All 2014 Kindy children must re-apply for Pre Primary 2015.

Information from the Shire

There has been extensive work being carried out on the Blackboy Hill Commemorative site

over the last few weeks including expanding the main paved area, improving access and

pathways and updating the information panels in the ellipses. This is part of an ongoing

program to develop and improve the site. The school community has always had a strong

connection with the Blackboy Hill site and takes pride in our links with services and events

which are part of the historical site.

At a meeting on the site recently I was informed by Mundaring Shire representatives that an

RSL rose garden is to be established on the island which separates the Shire car park and

school ‘Kiss and Drive’. At times, 10 -12 vehicles use this area when collecting students at

the close of school. While this is likely to cause some inconvenience initially, it is hoped that

the results of the program of works will be well worth it.
