1 Greenisland Stakeholder Advisory Panel has been meeting regularly over the last 2 years preparing for the replacement of the Greenisland Residential Home with a new supported living scheme. Trinity Housing Association has been appointed to develop the new supported living accommodation on the Greenisland Home site. Members of the Group met with Trinity Housing Association in March 2013 and shared views on the principles that must support the development of the new services, in particular taking on board the views of older people, their family, carers and friends. Trinity Housing Association has extensive experience in developing supported living schemes and are delighted to be taking forward this work. Funding for the new building has been provided by the Housing Association along with funding from the Department of Social Development (DSD). Issues now being considered to enable the build programme • A site study has identified the parts of the existing site that can be used for accommodation and outdoor leisure; other parts of the site will be used as car parking and for utilities. • Given the location on the shore of Belfast Lough, the risk of flooding has to be considered as areas that can flood cannot be used for accommodation. • Supported Living, what does this mean? In the new purpose built accommodation, housing support and care tasks will be provided by Care & Support Workers, as well as assessed Personal Care needs being provided to individuals. • The Supported Living scheme will provide individual accommodation for 36 people as well as shared facilities for use by all tenants. The design team will make best use of the location by maximising views of the sea and landscaping. • An architect leads the design team, including mechanical and electrical engineers. • Regulation Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) will be involved in approving the new scheme. • A site feasibility and asbestos study will all be part of the planning process as will a study of the terrain and surface features before any construction would commence.
