ISSUES

Greenhouse gases are gases in the atmosphere that absorb, and release radiation and thermal infrared energy.

The main Greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Methane and carbon dioxide are the most harmful.

The Greenhouse Effect heats the earth because greenhouse gases are absorbed and re-emitted, releasing radiation, and causing Global Warming.

FACTS

Every mile of commercial air travel releases a little more than half a pound of Carbon Dioxide for each passenger.

Using a gallon of gas for an automobile emits nearly 20 pounds of Carbon Dioxide.

Every ton of waste recycled instead of landfilled keeps the equivalent of more than 6,500 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

ARGUEMENT

The government should do more to fix the issues with Greenhouse Gas Emissions. They need to reduce carbon emissions floating into Earth’s atmosphere, which is emitting thermal energy/radiation increasing our chances of global warming by a lot.

SUPPORTING IDEAS

The government can’t stop the greenhouse effect, but they can reduce it by a lot by levying carbon taxes.

The government can also provide incentives for more carbon neutral energy sources.

The government needs to put a cap on carbon emissions and have factories stop releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
