Subject to completion of all regulatory approvals, work on the expansion is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2019 bringing with it up to 300 construction jobs and when fully operational a further 250 permanent jobs will be created. The expansion will encompass construction of a new lithium concentrate plant (CGP3) capable of producing 520,000 tonnes per annum of chemical grade lithium concentrate. Associated will be a new crushing plant and other infrastructure that will have sufficient capacity to support CGP3 and another similarly sized chemical -grade lithium concentration plant. The expansion project, plus debottlenecking of the existing lithium concentration plants will increase the lithium concentrate production capacity at Greenbushes by 608,000tpa to approximately 1.95mtpa which is equivalent to 260,000tpa of lithium carbonate equivalent. Commissioning of CGP3 is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2020 with a second plant possibly commissioned in 2022 subject to the timing of final Board approval. As with the CGP2 project (pictured above) approximately 90 percent of the expansion project budget will be spent in Western Australia in line with Talison’s commitment to local content. Talison Lithium Chief Executive Officer, Lorry Mignacca, said he was pleased with the Board approval which would underpin the development of world-class lithium hydroxide plants in Western Australia by Tianqi Lithium and Albemarle. “The investment underpins new value adding and jobs -creating industry in Western Australia,” said Mr Mignacca.

SHIRE FREE MORNING TEA FOR SENIORS The Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes will host a free morning tea for community members aged 60 years and over at the Bridgetown Pottery Restaurant on August 22.
Council’s Access and Inclusion Committee has organised the event as a great way for seniors to stay connected and share information with Councillors, Access and Inclusion Committee members, community group representatives and Shire officers.
Council invests in access and inclusion by supporting the Access and Inclusion Committee which advises Council on the issues affecting residents over 60 and residents with disability.
This is achieved through the implementation of relevant community plans and activities such as the annual morning tea.
This Committee is a direct link between residents and Council in relation to access and inclusion matters and is made up of service agency representatives and community members.
The Free Community Morning Tea will be held at Bridgetown Pottery Restaurant between 10am and 11.30am on Wednesday 22 August, 2018.
Greenbushes residents – if you would like to attend but need transport please let us know (number below) and we will organise the Miss Rosie bus.
For catering purposes please RSVP by 20 August 2018.

Thank you to the Balingup community for your patience as Vintage Home Town for Life Ltd has worked through all the legal requirements so that we can offer the new cottages to prospective new residents. This process has included the purchase of the land, meeting government planning requirements and updating the residency contracts and associated documentation to take account of many legislative changes which have been introduced since the first Vintage Cottages were built.
The first two of the new cottages being built by Vintage Home Town for Life at 6 Spencer St are expected to be finished by December 2018. They both have two bedrooms and are designed as independent living units for those over 60 years. The price for a lifetime lease for each of these two-bedroom units will be $290,000.
Once the new residency leases and their associated documentation are finalised, Vintage will make a public announcement inviting applications to purchase a lifetime lease for these new cottages. Those who have already submitted an 'expression of interest' form will be contacted and invited to complete a formal application. If you wish to confirm your expression of interest or if you are interested but plan to be away at this time, please contact Jackie Massey on 0407 382 527.
Please note that the leases will be offered on a “first come, first served basis”. Applications may be submitted from those who have the requisite funding available and, on a conditional basis, from those who need time to obtain finance e.g. through sale of property. As in standard real estate practice, conditional applications will be ranked below unconditional ones.
VINTAGE HOME TOWN FOR LIFE LTD
Applications for the third and fourth cottages (two-bedroom plus study) may be submitted at the same time as those for the first two cottages on the understanding that Vintage cannot proceed to build these cottages until the leases for the first two cottages have sold. The price for a lifetime lease for each of these two-bedroom plus study units will be $299,000. If you have any queries, please contact President, Jackie Massey on 0407 382 527.

This month’s news from the Greenbushes Belles CWA is exciting! We have had a great month and have been successful in some grant applications, plus delegates from our branch attended the Country Women’s Association of WA (Inc) State Conference at the Fremantle Sailing Club and have lots of news to share.
When I joined CWA I had no idea of the influence the Organisation has, and the amount of lobbying of State Government and Ministers on important topics.
No doubt you all heard about the CWA Rally on Parliament House in February to oppose the spending cuts to regional education, and they are relentless in their work towards having the cuts reversed.
At the Conference the members voted to continue putting the pressure on the Government in regards to the education cuts, and also to the funding cuts to our Community Resource Centres.
The following morning Heather Allen, State President, had released an open letter to the State Government on behalf of all CWA members expressing ‘absolute disgust’ of the situation. If you have not seen the letter, please head to our facebook page or contact me.
The opening night of the 94th State Conference had a ‘dress to impress’ theme and Jamie Kennedy, our Treasurer (pictured top left) certainly made the most of this theme and wore a fabulous dress to carry our branch banner in the parade, whilst I was lucky enough to sit back, enjoy the parade and view all of the branch banners.
As the evening unfolded we saw many awards given to branches, young volunteers, medical and dental scholarships awarded and heard tales of success.
We then got to the presentation of the Community Project Grants and were so very thrilled to hear Greenbushes Belles CWA being announced as the first successful grant applicants!
Many thanks to Leanne Green for her suggestion of a Poppy Wall for the next Dawn Service, and also for her time and skills to complete the application. This will be yet another attraction for Greenbushes, and more importantly an opportunity for the community to come together to knit, sew, crochet, or otherwise make poppies for display. Watch out for notices around town advising when our workshops will be held. It is so nice for our branch and community to see some of the fundraising we have done come back into our community via this grant!
There were 121 branches represented at the Conference and delegates from branches (or proxies) voted on a number of important motions including the cuts to the CRCs, a request to have GST removed from sanitary items, improvements to the South Coast Highway near Esperance, and changes to charges for multiple medical imaging tests being held on the same day.
For each of these motions branches had an opportunity to share why they put forth the motion and it came to light that sanitary products (including tampons and pads) are considered luxury items and hence carry GST in the price, however condoms and Viagra do not. What an interesting discussion was had by all!
The State Management Committee put forward the motion to urge the Federal Govt to change Medicare ruling so that multiple medical imaging tests can be completed on the same day without huge out of pocket expenses. This is so important for country families who need to travel for medical, and then receive large gap fees. Thanks CWA of WA (Inc) for the fabulous work you do!

I would like to thank SG Mining, Global Advanced Metals, Masonic Lodge Greenbushes and the Blackwood Darts Assoc for their generous sponsorship to assist with the costs of attending State Conference.
We found there were a number of branches from around the state who were unable to be present this year due to the costs of accommodation and travel, and we are so thankful that with your support of our local businesses and community groups we were able to attend.
On the subject of money! Recently we approached the State Management Committee of CWA to request permission to apply for a Lotterywest Grant as only 2 branches are allowed to apply in any given year.
We were so pleased to received notification a week before Conference to say that we were permitted to make progress on this grant.
How exciting! Our aim is to keep the current building but to provide her with some enhancements, and also bring her in line with current building requirements.
There is a long path ahead, and lots of fundraising to be done as we have to provide a percentage of the funds ourselves, so thanks to our community for your ongoing support of our fundraisers!
Also in the last month we were thrilled to receive notification from the Shire that we were successful in obtaining a grant to upgrade some of the chairs and tables in our CWA rooms. However these funds are dependent on our branch receiving the Lotterywest grant to renovate the building. Exciting and busy times are ahead for our branch.
I look forward to sharing another interesting month of news with you in September, but in the meantime keep an eye out for our upcoming workshops on cheese making and poppies!

I want to pass on this message from the President of the South West Autism Network: Dear Leanne, I enjoyed my morning outing to Greenbushes. The 10km (but actually 11km) run less so. The event was well organised. We at SWAN are incredibly grateful to Grow Greenbushes for your support. It is very difficult to organise major fund-raising events within an organisation where most of our members are grappling with a family member requiring additional support. To receive support such as you have provided is an incredible help and will make a significant difference to our operation. Please convey my heartfelt appreciation to your members. With kind regards, Stephen Cohen SWAN President
Thanks again to the community of Greenbushes for making our Greenbushes Fun Run event bigger and better each year. When you get feedback like this it makes all the effort worthwhile. The Fun Run is scheduled for 19

Economics and Industry Standing Committee Inquiries
a. Microgrids and associated technologies As a member of the Economics and Industry Standing Com-mittee I have been fortunate to read submissions and attend hearings regarding Microgrids and associated technologies. Distributed Energy Resources (DER), with improved battery backup systems, is emerging as a massive opportunity to deliver affordable, reliable and secure energy. I am especially excited by the possibilities presented by these emerging technologies to regional Western Australia.
b. Inquiry into WA’s Automotive Smash Repair Industry The committee is also investigating the smash repair industry: the relationship between repairers and insurers, consumer choice and protection, and safety and quality standards in WA. It is interesting hearing the experiences and viewpoints from both smash repair businesses and customers. You can find out more under the ‘Committees’ heading at: www.parliament.wa.gov.au
Water security in the Southern Forests region My thanks to growers in the Manjimup region who took me on a tour to see first hand the impact of water restrictions in the region. Water security is vital to the expansion of the horticul-tural industry, and the current Department of Water moratori-um on the release of water for new licences is already jeopard-ising the expansion of orchards and creating a high degree of uncertainty regarding access to water.
Better news re: WA’s fair share of the GST The Nationals have continued to champion for a fairer share of GST for WA, and the proposal to increase the iron ore special lease rental helped put this debate on the table. We welcome the Federal Government’s plan to increase WA’s share so that it is more equitable across the nation. The increased revenue should mean that some of the very harsh funding decisions taken by the McGowan Government can now be reversed. It should now be possible to return some of this windfall to the regions to keep camp schools open and to adequately fund the CRCs.
My office can help with…. People ring my office for all sorts of reasons. Whilst I general-ly deal with State Government issues, my office can also help provide a conduit to Telstra, Western Power, nbn, and Cen-trelink. I am here to represent everyone in the Electorate and happy to do what I can to assist.

Plant of the Month With Felicity Littleton
Mushroom of the month: Gymnopilus junonis Instead of Plant of the Month this month I will provide some information on Fungi. When walking out and about, I encountered this large Fungi down near the tennis courts at the Greenbushes Sports Complex. My friend Terry very kindly came down to photograph the Fungi with the idea of featuring it in the monthly newsletter as something of interest. Although I have attended a few Fungi forays some years ago, I am miles away from the very specialised scientific knowledge mycologists have. You might have noticed some interesting specimens of Fungi, after all, it is Fungi season. May, June and July is the time to find them. It is a good thing if you did notice a few, because in fact, Fungi are one of the most important organisms on our planet. They contribute significantly to the health and maintenance of the Australian bushland. There are a few similar botanical terms used to describe Fungi, but Fungi have their own kingdom separate from plants and animals. Unlike plants, fungi lack chlorophyll so do not manufacture their own energy. Some species of Gymnopilus contain constituents that produce hallucinogenic effects – along with dizziness and vomiting. Caution is strongly recommended as many of these could be highly poisonous.

Shed open hours
Friday 8:30am-3:00pm Saturday by appointment
During July the Shed held its annual fundraising events; A sausage sizzle and wood raffle held in conjunction with the Talison Lithium open day. This year, thanks to generous donations, we were able to offer first prize of a trailer of Jarrah fire wood donated by Greenacres Mill, second prize was a $50 community voucher donated by Davmech and third prize an item from the Community Shed. First prize winner was Phylis Jones from Greenbushes. Second prize winner was Mike Lynch of Mt Barker, a regular visitor to the area. Third prize winner was Angie Cornish, Vice Chairperson of the Community
Shed. Yes I did take my prize, a bird feeder made by one of our members! My birds will love it and they can be purchased for a mere $15 each!
Funds raised from the raffle and sausage sizzle will purchase a new circular blade for our thicknesser, a much needed Triton router and general consumables for the Shed.. A big thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket. Thank you to the local businesses who sold tickets on our behalf, and the Bridgetown Newsagency for allowing us to set-up outside their business on Saturday 7

The first Robinsons to arrive in Greenbushes were twins, Harry & Ted Robinson.
They were miners from South Australia born in 1862 who travelled to Western Australia together to find their fortunes.
They were very different. Ted tall, Harry short. Ted married Maunder Williams' sister Lily and had no children.
Harry married Ada and produced 8 children. Ted died young in 1925 and Harry a grand old age in the 1940's.
Harry and Ada lived first in Bunbury End before moving to Telluride Street, and were very dedicated members of the Methodist Church throughout their lives.
Seven of the eight children were born in Greenbushes between 1897 and 1911, and the last two "boys" Cyril & Alex lived in town in the old house until the late 1960's.
Gordon and his wife Lottie returned in the early 1960's and had the newsagency on Blackwood Rd.
Lottie herself was born in Laverton in 1913, and has just recently died at age 105.
She is the last connection of the Robinsons who lived in Greenbushes, a family connection going back over 120 years.

AUGUST 2018
Jacqui and I enjoyed the company of some
long-term friends down from Perth towards the
end of the month and it was great to be able to
show them around our new home town. We spent a
wonderful evening at Ford House in Bridgetown being
hosted by the owner Jenny and fed by Pip (from
Bridgetown Pottery & Tearooms) as part of the Winter
Festival.
The Talison Board gave the go ahead for the
construction of a fourth processing plant (CGP3) during
the month. The plant is planned to come into operation
in late 2020 and will increase our concentrate
production by a further 520,000 tonnes per year. We
are busily working towards securing all the required
environmental approvals and are hopeful of on-ground
works commencing in Q1 2019. It is expected that the
new plant will result in the creation of a further 250 new
permanent jobs.
We held our Mine Open Day early in the month and the
weather gods certainly smiled down upon us. The day
was hugely popular with just under 400 visitors
partaking of the opportunity to be shown around our
mining operations. A very, very, very big thank you
must go to Debbie Walsh who had the unenviable job
of pulling everything, and everyone together. A very big
thank you must also go to all the volunteers who
assisted to make the day a resounding success,
including, but not limited to (and I apologise if I have
missed anyone):
Talison, SG Mining, Action Drill & Blast, AGC,
Kerman and MSPE staff;
Greenbushes Community shed members who
cooked up a mean sausage sizzle;
Community Garden members who provided an
amazing range of very tasty treats and the, as
always, very popular donuts;
CRC staff who allowed us the use of their building
and provided Admin support on the day; and
Josh Whiteland from Koomal Dreaming for his
welcome to country.
Per Christensen from Blackwood Basin Group for
sharing his knowledge about the environment at
Schwenke’s Dam.
Without the support of our volunteers the day would not
have been as successful as it was.
MINE NEWS - Craig’s Corner Talison hosted a number of visits during the month
including: Federal and State environmental regulators;
State Minister for Mines – Hon. Bill Johnston MLA;
Students from Cambourne School of Mines;
Tianqi customers; and
Environmental professionals from Mongolia.
The mine suffered its second lost time injury in recent
times during the month with a contract employee injuring
his back whilst lifting some conveyor guarding. This was
extremely disappointing as it remains our goal to send
every person working at the mine home to their loved ones
unhurt and this serves as a reminder that we must
continue to be ever vigilant and that we must all see safety
as an important Core Value.
Activities at the mine continue to be in line with our
Budget, albeit that the rain during the month proved
challenging at times. Both the Technical Grade Plant
(TGP) and Chemical Grade Plant (CGP) continue to
perform above Budget with throughput rates of the CGP
continuing to be well in excess of what we expected since
the May shutdown.
Construction of the new CGP2 plant continues at pace
with a major milestone for the project achieved during July
being the delivery and installation of the Primary Crusher
apron feeder (7/8th July). Steel erection is proceeding very
quickly with the site visibly changing on an almost daily
basis.
