• Plastic made from oil that will run out.• Green technology is beginning to change things by making plastic from plants.• It can give us a sustainable way of using plastic.

FANTASTIC PLASTIC

Page 4: Green technology, recycling

RECYCLING• It is better than throwing away, but it is not always the best answer.• At the same time, collecting and processing old bottles, cans and newspapers uses lots of energy.

Page 5: Green technology, recycling

GREEN ENERGY• Most of our energy has come from burning fossil fuels.

• These include oil, coal and natural gas.

Page 6: Green technology, recycling

FOSSIL FUEL PROBLEMS

• Fossil fuels are nonrenewable• They create carbondioxide gas

Page 7: Green technology, recycling

ELECTRIC CARS• Batteries are large and heavy that have to be charged regularly.• Now advanced technology has produced lighter, smaller batteries and better motors.

HOW GREEN IS IT?

• Electric cars don’t give off any gases and seem to cause no pollution.

• But the electricity that charge the batteries come from power stations that burn fossil fuels.

• Perhaps, in the future, cars have SOLAR PANELS

Page 9: Green technology, recycling

RENEWABLE ENERGY

• Other sources of energy will not run out such as solar power or wind power.

• They are renewable.

Page 10: Green technology, recycling

• Wind power has been used for hundreds of years to grind corn or pump water.

• Taking energy from the wind is easier now thanks to GREEN TECHNOLOGY

• The blades of a windmill drive a turbine ( machine with blades) that generates electricity.

• The technology of flourescent tubes has developed

so that we have very compact bulbs.

• BUT these bulb contain small amounts of mercury.

• Mercury is a poisonius chemical.

• Flourescent bulbs should be recycled,

not thrown away.

ELITHIS TOWER• The Elithis Tower is (in France) made of wood andrecycled insulation.• It is the world’s first office block that produces more energy than it uses.• It has 330 solar panels on its roof. For this reason, it is called ‘energy positive’
