Routes

From the coast to the badlands until the mountains. A journey between the geo-naturalistic landscape peculiarities that the land of Basilicata offers. A unique path that leads visitors on an uncontaminated nature, a perfect mix of colors in a beautiful landscape. The route starts in the Ionian coast, from Metaponto to Nova Siri, a coastline of golden fine sand and wide beaches of sand and pebbles. Following the “yellow sand road” from north-east to south-west, it comes Salinella Lake, a unique paradise on heart situated in a protected area. Near the border with Calabria, there is also the Policoro Forest, a place of significant scientific and landscape value. The journey then continues in the unmissable scenery of the badlands, a wide expanse of hilly that let you feel as you

are walking in a moon landscape.

To mark the boundary between the badlands and the inland there are the suggestive Murge Sant’Oronzo, a part of the National Park of Lucan Apennines Val d’Agri-Lagonegrese. Within the park, there is also the natural oasis of Bosco Faggeto, recognized as Site of Community Interest. Continuing the journey you reach the “center of the earth” thanks to the famous Castel di Lepre caves, the favorite destination of many speleologists. Passing the high peaks of Agri Valley, we arrive in the bucolic Camastra Valley, which houses the nature reserves of Serra Calvello, the Faggeta of Pierfaone and the Regional Natural Reserve of Abetina Laurenzana.
