The children have returned ready to learn and work with everybody in school. Their attitude and behaviour have been good and they are a credit to our home/ school partnership. Please make sure that you read letters sent home carefully to avoid misunderstandings and to ensure good communication. LOST PROPERTY After only 4 weeks into the new term, we already have a large amount of lost property. Please can you ensure that names are put on all clothing, pumps etc. We will then try to return lost items to pupils and this will help reduce our lost property. Thank you. Latecomers May I remind parents that when children are late for school (i.e. after 8.55 a.m.), they should report to the school office by coming though the main entrance door only. All other doors will be closed after that time. Please dont ask a child to open the doors for you as they have been told not to for safeguarding reasons. 02/17-18 6th October 2017 GREEN MEADOW PRIMARY SCHOOL Green Meadow Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham, B29 4EE Tel: 0121 475 4505 Fax: 0121 476 8254 Miss H. Setchell—Head Teacher www.greenmeadowprimaryschool.com [email protected] Acceptable Usage Policy Being safe when using computers and tablet devices is really important for children and adults! Please make yourself aware of the updated Acceptable Usage Policy, which can be found on our website. This policy has been given to your child / children in school. They have had the opportunity to read and ask questions with their class teacher before signing it to agree to the terms. This policy is in place to ensure safe and responsible use of computing systems, equipment and the internet in school. We really appreciate your support in this agreement. If you have any queries about this policy, please see Miss Moreton (Computing Subject Leader). ASTHMA ALERT Can you please ensure your child has an inhaler left in school at all times. We hold emergency inhalers in school but these cannot be given to children without parental consent so please ask the office for a consent form. If your child no longer requires an inhaler, please inform the office so we can update our system. Year 2—Outstanding Outdoor Learning As part of our Habitats topic, we have been spending lots of time outside in the Wildlife Area. During Outdoor Learning this week, we needed to collaborate in a small group to use natural resources to make a grasshopper. It was quite tricky as the wind kept blowing our bodies away. Codey: "My group had to persevere to make the legs because they didn't look right." Aaliyah: "We had fun making the grasshopper but it was difficult to make the different parts of the body." S= Safety Keep safe by being careful not to give out personal information— such as you name, email, phone number, home address, photo- graph or school name to people who you dont trust online. M= Meeting Meet: Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. The advice is not to do it. A = Accepting Accepting: Accepting emails, IM messages, or opening files, pictures or texts from people you dont know or trust can lead to problems—they may contain viruses. R = Reliable Someone online may be lying about who they are, and infor- mation you find on the internet may not be reliable. T= Tell Tell: Tell your parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried. Ask your children to tell you about what sites they visit and what they enjoy doing online. Ask them about how they stay safe online and what tips they have for you. Talk about what is OK and not OK to share online? Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, privacy settings and how to report or block on the services they use. Ask them for help or whether they can show you how to do something better online. Think about how you as a family use the internet? Could you be using it more safely, should you change what you are doing? What could you be doing together? The Communication and Autism Team (CAT) will be holding a coffee morning for parents of all pupils who access this SEND support at Green Meadow on Wednesday 18th October from 9.00-10.30am in the annexe classroom. We hope this will lead to a regular group meeting at school where parents will have the opportunity to chat and access support and advice. We hope to see you there! School Development Plan 2017-218 Thank you to all the parents and carers who have continued to offer support and ask questions about what the school is focusing on to continue improvement and how this is achievable. You will see below the School Development Plan overview which has been updated since we received the recent Ofsted report. This provides you with the focus for school development. It will be published on the school website along with the individual plan for each bullet point. Governors will be available during ParentsEvening on Wednesday, the 11th October to chat with you and to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you then. PE KIT (for Lessons) We really want to encourage children to take part so please provide your child(ren) with their correct kit. I would like to remind parents that PE Kit should consist of plain white tops and dark shorts for indoor activities. Dark coloured tracksuit bot-toms and tops can also be provided so they can be worn outside as winter progresses. These can be their outdoor learning kits if they are clean. Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated. We encourage the use of pumps for inside use and trainers for use outside.

YEAR 1

Blaine wrote about Birmingham City Centre and compared it to Bournville.

Attendance

Congratulations to Class 4W. They are the Junior and whole school winners with 98.98% for the month of September. The best attenders in the infant department were Reception with 98.45%, well done. Reception class have recorded no lates for the month so they are the early bird winners for September – well done Reception children. We have started off the year very well seeing an increase in attendance overall and a reduction in lates to 128 for the month. However, as can be seen from the table above the Infant Department are far more punctual than the Juniors. School starts at 8.50 a.m. and ALL children need to be in school for that time so that they can access the curriculum and progress as they need to. Let’s see if October can see a reduction in the overall number of lates. Come on Juniors, be in school on time! Thank you for your continued support.

said: Summer: "I liked going on the adventure." Poppy: "It was fun doing the stretches." Jake: "I liked it, packing our bag."

Year 6 In Mathematics, we have been exploring how problems can be presented in a variety of different ways. We have been developing our reasoning skills and using technical vocabulary to explain our findings in a concise manner.

Year 3 In English Year 3 have been reading the story of Romulus and Remus. This has linked with our topic of 'The Romans'. We read part of the story and drew a picture which was created in our mind as we listened to it. We then explained what we had drawn and why.

Year 5 In Year 5, we have been reading Leon and the Place Between. We imagined that we were Leon and used our senses to write a setting description about what we could see, hear and smell. Here is an example of our wonderful writing - Ler-Ming 5C.
