More forests in Spain

2011 is the International Year of the Forests and in Spain we

have to celebrate because the forest areas are growing and we

are the 3rd country in the world with a

higher increase in the extension of

forests, just behind China and the USA.

This has happened because some rural

areas in Spain are dissapearing.

On one hand, it is something very good

for planet Earth - commented the

children in Year 5 after reading the news

on the newspaper- because it means that

there are a lot of trees in the country

and that we can beathe a better air. But

on the other hand we have to be careful

with the fires.

In Europe, only Sweden, Findland and Eslovenia have got bigger extensions

of forests: 60% of their territory is covered with forests while in the

United Kingdom it’s only 12%!

Els Pins in a magazine

The Second Hand market that the Pupil’s Parents Association

organized before Christmas was a big success. And rewarding

this initiative a short article has been published at number 10

of the magazine “Educació i sostenibilitat” (Education and

Sustainability). Congratulations!!!

Carnival decorations

On the 4th of March we are celebrating Carnival but since early February

the school is preparing this

big festival decorating the

school. This year’s topic is

Stories and all the school

is full of book of all kinds,

letters

hanging

for the ceilings and characters from the different

stories. Families have helped with the decorations and,

as we are an Eco-friendly school, they have made

beautiful books and letters with recycled materials

(paper rolls, plastic bottles, cereal boxes, etc).

Making paper at Capellades

Children in Year 3 and Year 4 have visited “Museu Molí Paperer” in

Capellades, near Barcelona. It’s an old

mill that has become a museum about

the history of paper. Children visited

the

different

rooms in the museum and learned about the

traditional handmade processes of making

paper. Each child did a paper sheet to take

home.
