East Frieze of the Parthenon

A rectangular strip on the inside east end of this classic temple of Athena on the Acropolis of Athens. It is located just underneath the eaves of the ceiling, as indicated in this reconstruction. Here we have a group of Olympian deities flanking the ceremony of the peplos, Athena's special garment.

day Turkey), and was completely rebuilt three times before its eventual destruction in 401.

● At Ephesus, a goddess whom the Greeks associated with Artemis was venerated in an archaic, cult image[31] that was carved of wood and kept decorated with jewelry.
