SCHOLARSHIPResearch suggests students who belong to a Greek organization develop a stronger sense of belonging and connection to their college environment and are more likely to graduate. At Baylor, the All-Greek grade point average is consistently above the All-University undergraduate average. Our Greek students strive for success academically and are recognized for their accomplishments. The 2011 All-Greek GPA was 3.29.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTSGeneral Grade EligibilityAccording to Baylor policy, a student must have completed 12 Baylor hours and earned a 2.5 cumulative GPA to join a fraternity or sorority. However, many organizations require all potential new members to have a higher GPA to join their individual chapter. Grades are not rounded up.

Transfer StudentsAstudentisclassifiedasatransferifheorshehasattendedacollegeoruniversityduringthefallorspringsemesterafter high school graduation. If the only college work completed is dual credit or advanced placement, the student isnotconsideredatransfer.TransfergradesdonotapplytotheBaylorGPA.Inordertojoinduringhisorherfirstsemester, a transfer student must have a minimum of 24 hours with a transfer GPA of 3.0. Grades are not rounded up in determining eligibility.

Junior Status for Panhellenic Sororities Juniors are counted separately from freshmen and sophomores for Panhellenic recruitment. This means juniors have a separate quota from freshmen and sophomores. While most sororities take juniors, they are not required to do so.

According to university policy, anyone who has completed 60 hours at the end of the fall semester will be considered a junior. This same policy applies to Panhellenic recruitment. Any woman who has completed 60 hours before January recruitment begins will be considered a junior. This includes Baylor hours, transfer hours and advanced placement hours. If you transfer hours to the university, those hours will be on the grade report that is received for recruitment eligibility at the end of the fall semester. Juniors must also meet the same grade requirement of a 2.75 cumulative GPA required by the Panhellenic sororities.

Membership in a Greek organization means more than just having fun. One of the most gratifying aspects of Greek Life is the satisfaction and pride which comes with involvement in community service. Each organization has a philanthropy they support through a variety of events and projects. Many of the Baylor Greek organizations host All-University events to help raise awareness for their philanthropy.

Being Greek affords members the opportunity to get involved with the surrounding community through chapter-sponsored activities as well as individual or small group activities. Greek organizations at Baylor contribute over 30,000 hours of service to the community and over $50,000 to local and national charities each year.

Through Greek Life, the opportunities to serve others and the community are endless. Giv-ing back not only immediately helps those in need, but is a personal investment that ex-tends beyond your time at Baylor.

BROTHERHOOD & SISTERHOOD

The friendships members make within their chapters will last a lifetime. Whether you come to college not knowing a single person, or you come with friends, the opportunity to be part of a Greek organization enhances your Baylor experience.

Brotherhood and sisterhood are bonds of unity and friendship unique to the Greek community. By becoming a member of a fraternity or sorority, you may experience an easier transition to college and gain a “home away from home.” You will have the opportunity to meet other students with diverse backgrounds, similar interests and new perspectives.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT

Baylor University is the world’s largest Baptist institution of higher education. Students are encouraged to explore their spiritual walk and calling while at the university. Baylor Greeks are active in various churches in the Waco community. Greek members take their message beyond the Waco and Texas borders by participating in small group mission trips to other parts of the country and the world. The Interfraternity Council sponsors educational speakers and collaborates with the other Greek councils in planning and sponsoring All-Greek activities.

MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL

The Multicultural Greek Council was created to encourage community service and philanthropy, support high academic standards, develop campus and community leaders and to educate all Baylor students about diversity. The council is comprised of six sororities and two fraternities.

MGC strives to unite its member organizations in order to share ideas and resources, promote mutual respect and equality, provide a support network for involved students, and encourage positive relationships among the members of MGC, the Greek community, and the Baylor and Waco communities.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council is the unifying and governing body for the seven historically African-American fraternities and sororities chartered at Baylor University. The activities of the fraternities and sororities include community service projects, step shows, tutoring programs, leadership development, and educational programming. All seven NPHC groups are committed to the holistic development of their members.

NPHC sponsors mixers, forums, guest speakers and cultural events throughout the year. The council also awards an annual scholarship for an undergraduate student. NPHC hosts a “Greek Informational” during the year to inform and educate students about the history, community service and social aspects of each individual organization.

PANHELLENIC COUNCIL

The Baylor Panhellenic Council guides Baylor’s eight National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities and organizes the activities of mutual interest and concern for all member organizations. When you join one of the eight Panhellenic sororities at Baylor, you not only become a member of that particular organization, you also become a member of the greater Panhellenic community at Baylor, across the country, and beyond.

Membership in an NPC sorority at Baylor enhances your college experience through leadership development, academic support, social events, service opportunities, and a network of friends which will last long after you graduate.
