WINTER PROGRAM GUIDE | January 5 - March 5, 2015 3gbymca.org gbymca.org

The legendary tennis player Venus Williams once said,

“believe in yourself even when no one else does. That’s

the makings of a winner.” I couldn’t agree more. At the Y,

we believe in human potential. Sometimes the barrier to

success is simply a need for a helping hand.

To that end, I’m thrilled to announce an exciting

partnership with the State of Vermont’s Blueprint For

Health. The Y will take an active role helping the State implement personal-empowerment workshops designed to

support those living either with difficult chronic conditions or trying to prevent the onset of one. The workshops are

free and led by trained instructors who bring knowledge, compassion and tangible tools to help individuals better

manage living with Arthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Migraine headaches, Crohn’s Disease, MS and other ongoing

health conditions.

The Y will also connect smokers to smoking cessation classes and promote WRAP - Wellness Recovery Action Plan for

those seeking an effective plan to deal with unwanted feelings or behaviors. And we will continue to offer the YMCA

Diabetes Prevention Program. To date, the program has helped 348 participants in 31 locations prevent the onset of

type 2 diabetes.

These health self-management programs are evidence based. They work. And they are free. Take advantage of them.

If you do, I can assure you 2015 will be a happier and healthier year.

Here’s to your health,

Integrated Swims January, February, March & April 2015Our new program is designed to help you bridge the gap with your swimmer. Come and learn how to increase your swimmer’s skill level by working with our swim experts. We will work with care providers and their preschoolers, home schoolers, or swimmers with special needs (including school groups who use the Y as a supplement to their educational program). By showing you how to make swimming fun even if you don’t love the water, how to position swimmers for optimal comfort, how to build on existing skills, and how to positively challenge swimmers, we hope to prepare your swimmer for inclusion in our swim lesson program or swim team program.

We will have 4 swim periods in which Diane Chandler, one of our swim instructors specializing in adaptive swim lessons and Jess Lukas, Assistant Aquatics Director work with you. These will occur on Fridays: January 30th, February 27th, March 27th and April 24th during the 12:00pm – 1:00pm hour. Our goal is to create an environment here at the Y where all out swimmers can swim safely and participate in swim lessons should they be interested in doing so and look towards swim team as well. Please contact Jess Lukas with any questions, [email protected]

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITYGiving back and providing support to our neighbors

FILL THE BUSKids in the Y Afterschool Program helped

us raise awareness for the number of children who attend Y programs and camps with support from financial

assistance. They made faces to attach to our giant Y bus and Y members and friends helped “fill it,” through their

donations. Mr. Tony Pomerleau inspired larger gifts by offering a generous

matching gift. Thank you! I believe we must care for all children. Not just our own.

The Y helps nurture the youngest children and helps them grow into compassionate and responsible members of our community.

As a a father, grandfather, businessman & active commu-nity member, I am grateful the Y is here to help shape future generations.

WHY IGIVE

At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Lasting change can only come about when we work to-gether. Your gift to the Y will have immediate impact right in your neighborhood. Please give. gbymca.org/give
