Great Northern Railway Track Charts This disk contains track charts by “classic” divisions. In July, 1967, the Great Northern eliminated the Butte, Kalispell, and Klamath Divisions, and reestablished the Spokane and Montana Divisions in their place. The Klamath Division became part of the Cascade Division, while part of the Cascade and Kalispell Divisions became part of the revised Spokane Division, with the Montana Division taking the rest of the Kalispell Division and all of the Butte Division. Part of the main line of the Butte, Kalispell, and Cascade Divisions reflect the “newer” division points. Also, in the 1950’s, the Dakota, Mesabi, & Minot divisions were realigned, and these charts reflect that realignment, with the subdivisions changed placed into the proper divisional folder. All scans were at 150 dpi for the main track charts. Yard maps were at 300 dpi to assure clarity. Selected yard maps are found under the respective divisional folders. Blotches found on the scans were on the “original” documents. “Crooked” track plans are because of the originals. All pages were placed square with the scanner. In addition, bonus items will be found under the respective divisions. This would include track rights over other railroads, such as Northern Pacific and Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railways. Other rights, such as over Southern Pacific and Milwaukee Road were included in the GN charts. A map showing the GN System and some selected information are found in this folder, rather than by division. Please note that included are two Union Pacific 2001 charts, showing former GN rights. These files are the former SP line from Chemult to Klamath Falls in the Klamath Division folder and the UP from Spokane to Fairfield, which GN gained rights after abandoning their own tracks in the 1950’s. These two charts were extracted from a previous PDF file, so I do not know the resolution of the scans. Other bonus items, found under the Klamath Division, are the old Oregon, California, & Eastern Railway, owned jointly by GN and SP until abandonment. Also found under the Klamath Division is the Lookout- Hambone segment, built by Great Northern, but operated exclusively by McLoud River Railroad, and as of this writing, is placed on the abandonment list. Selected employee timetables showing stations were also scanned to compliment the track charts. Scanned timetables reflect the ones used in determining the subdivisions. Butte, Cascade, Kalispell, and Klamath Divisions were scanned as opposed to “new” Cascade, Montana, and Spokane. Selected subdivisions of abandoned and/or consolidated of older timetables are included. Because these charts date from 1909 to 1960, some abandoned segments are shown, that were never part of the BN/BNSF system or shortline operators. Certain subdivisions have been updated to later than 1960.
