GREASE TRAP INSTALLATION MANUAL You have purchased an Ecotank® grease trap for waste water pre-treatment. This trap has an effective capacity of 150 L. To ensure correct installation, we suggest reading the recommendations provided in this document. WARNING! Non-compliance with the recommendations contained in this manual will void the product guarantee. OPERATIONS The purpose of an Ecotank® grease trap is to collect oil and grease in waste water discharged from households and small size commercial facilities. These substances can affect biological degradation processes occurring in subsequent treatment systems. Additionally, clogging of system pipes or drainage systems is avoided. RECOMMENDATIONS BEFORE INSTALLING When choosing the correct site to install an Ecotank® grease trap for waste water pre-treatment, it is important to take into account any applicable regional or national rules and/or regulations regarding this type of installation. The person installing the trap must assess the installation site in terms of environmental conditions such as topography, geology, inclination, potential flood areas, landscape, surface run-off, and vegetation, among others. This is necessary to ensure none of the above factors interferes with the system’s correct functioning or puts the structural integrity of the tank at risk. Grease trap installation site must be easily accessible for cleaning and must be as close as possible to the source of grease (kitchen sink, for example). Choosing an incorrect installation site or ignoring environmental factors that can potentially damage the tank will void the product guarantee. MAINTENANCE Your Ecotank® grease trap must be inspected every three months. To do so, remove the trap inspection lid and, if necessary, use a sieve to skim off excess grease from the surface. It is also advisable to remove any type of sediment accumulated at the bottom of the trap. Once this has been done, make sure to put concrete cover back on. INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS: • Ecotank® grease traps have been designed to pre-treat waste water coming from sources of grease and oil (kitchen sink, for example). Never connect sewage pipes (from toilettes) to a grease trap. • Ecotank® grease traps can be used to pre-treat grey water from households and small size commercial facilities (14 people maximum capacity). For larger commercial facilities, please contact La Casa del Tanque S.A. Technical Department. • All grey water produced by a household (showers, washing machines, basins, sinks, etc.) can be pre-treated in the Ecotank® grease trap provided maximum trap capacity is not exceeded (150 L). Make sure to check pipe diameter before (See Step 2 – Steps for Correct Installation). • Ecotank® grease traps must be installed in an easily accessible location to facilitate inspection and correct maintenance. • Ecotank® grease traps must never be used as a septic tank. • Ecotank® grease traps must never be used to store drinking water. • Ecotank® grease traps are designed for below ground use provided instructions contained in this Manual are followed. • Do not install an Ecotank® grease trap where phreatic levels are very high (less than 1 m below ground level). GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS • Never install tank in a position other than specified. • Do not manipulate tank if full or partially full of water. • Do not install tank in areas prone to flooding or with surface water run-off. • Do not locate tank beneath driveways or in the pathway of heavy or vehicu- lar traffic areas unless protected by a surface that is able to resist these loads. • Never use pointed objects manipulate the tank (including forklift) as these can perforate the tank. • When storing tank before installation, make sure it is stored in a vertical position on a level surface. • Temperature of liquid stored inside the tank must not exceed 60°C. • Before installing any additional fittings, make sure to ask an authorized dealer. • Tanks are not fire resistant. Do not use or store near an open flame or heat above 80° C. • Do not hinder or seal off access to tank inspection lid. • Do not place tank on crushed stone, vegetation, roots or other elements that could damage the trap bottom.
