The data for Uttarakhand relating to population, water supply, sewage generated, STP operational/proposed is available.
Detailed data is available for Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar. The BOD load to Ganga River basin by towns/cities of Uttarakhand is 83489
kg/d, 72281 kg/d is disposed in rivers. Only 20% or even less sewage is getting treated. The secondary data available from govt. agencies about population differs from the
census data. The list of towns for data collection should be reconsidered for revision. The WQI for Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag was calculated. Ganga was found
clean in upper stretches and not suitable for bathing and drinking Haridwar. Floating population contributes noticeable quantity of sewage in this region. Early calculation shows, Himachal contributes 3080 kg/d BOD load for
disposal. A total of 9581 kg/d BOD load is generated.
