My mumGraziella Dailler was a of French nationality and had lived in Australia for 26 years. Here she created a beautiful family with Kym Holly who she was married to for 20+ years. They had three beautiful children; Adelaide 26, Natasha 23 and Vincent 20. In 2008, Mum and Dad decided to part ways, staying good friends, but unfortunately she then met her abuser. Mum was silent about the abuse for the first couple of incidents, but then found the strength and courage to speak out against her abuser and attain a restraining order. No longer feeling safe in Australia even though she had a restraining order, she fled to her native land, France, for a few months and returning in time for the birth of her first grandson. Her abuser used the birth of her grandson to have the upper hand by threatening the rest of her families lives. He continued this threat and intimidation until Mums final days.

This year in May, after missing Adelaide’s birthday which was extremely unlike Mum, we could only assume she had been called into work. Having her not contact us or her work for numerous days, we decided to go and check if she was okay. When we arrived at her house on May 16 her car was in the driveway and the house seemed to be locked and secure. We then decided to make forced entry into the house, only to find their worst nightmares have come true; the ultimate cowardly act of taking his life and our mothers life.We are left with the feeling s of devastation, rage, heartache, emptiness and many unanswered questions.

What we feel needs to change to help improve the legislature

Minimum penalties

• For example: Mums abuser arrested numerous times only be released out into the community to re-offend.

• Resolution: offenders with a restraining order who continue to breach it, should be dealt with harsher punishments rather than a slap on the hand

Electronic tracking

• For example: in my Mums case, if her abuser was made to wear a tracking device to ensure her safety – Mum could NEVER prove the breach of the restraining order; this could have possibly saved her life.

• Resolution: Wear an electronic tracking device as Domestic Violence Abusers are obsessed, infatuated, controlling and have no respect for the law. This is a good way to monitor these abusers.

Address mental health issues, drinking and drug abuse and anger

issues• For example: Mums abuser was an

alcoholic and drug abuser; both prescription and illegal. He also had anger management issues that even after being arrested 4 times for domestic violence (only with my Mum) was never made to address these underlying issues.

• Resolution: It should be compulsory for these people to see the correct professionals to help them with these issues of drinking, drugs, mental and anger problems.

How to get the community involved with Domestic

Violence• For example: Mum told her

family, friends and community that she was abused, but no one really knew how to handle this

• Resolution: Awareness and how to support the victims of Domestic Violence will allow us a general public to speak up and help these victims with confidence that our “laws” with protect us and hopefully these victims and generations to come.

Monitoring and harsher punishments for those who contact the victim when they are in remand, have a restraining

order and possibly in jail

• For example: Mums abuser stole her car was caught drink driving with no license while she had a restraining order against him. He was also contacting by phone and letters whilst in remand.

• Resolution: monitor what these criminals are doing; who they are phoning and contacting in the outside world

How did her abuser slip through the cracks???

• He had two restraining order with 2 different women

• He was caught numerous times drink driving with no license

• Property to damage towards his victims and the general public

• Vehicle theft• Continually breaching the two

restraining orders that were filed against him from 2 separate victims

• Abusing police officers• The above listed are examples are

proof of how little respect he had for the community, the law and finally women!
