Grandview Heights Secondary Information Package
School design and renderings by CHP Architects
Grandview Heights Secondary is under construction in the Grandview Heights area of Surrey (16988 25th Ave.). This is
an exciting time for students, staff, parents, and the Surrey Board of Education as new secondary schools do not come
about often. Currently, all students in South Surrey/White Rock are served by three secondary schools. Joining Elgin
Park, Semiahmoo and Earl Marriott, the newly constructed Grandview Heights Secondary will serve 1,500 students.
This is a rare opportunity to define the culture and character of a new school community. Grandview Heights Secondary
will address the overcrowding at Earl Marriott and Semiahmoo, with these two schools currently a combined 700
students over capacity in a rapidly growing area.
To prepare for the opening of the new school, new catchment boundaries need to be established to balance student
capacity at the four secondary schools. This review will include an analysis of Choice Program locations as well as the
natural feeder elementary schools for secondary schools. Every “family of schools” will be impacted by this consultation.
How can you be involved?
Surrey Schools believes parent and student input and priorities for transitioning to the new school are an important part
of this process. Please review the information regarding the catchment boundary options in this package. Further
information can be found on the consultation website: www.placespeak.com/sd36capitalplan
We encourage parents and students to provide feedback by completing the survey on the consultation website. This
survey is also printed on the last page of this information package if you prefer to fill it out and return it to your school.
The consultation period runs until June 15, 2018.
In addition, a series of evening forums will be held for the district to share information about the potential boundary
changes. Each forum runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.:
April 30 at Earl Marriott (East Kensington, Hall’s Prairie, Jessie Lee, Laronde, Morgan, Pacific Heights, Peace
Arch, Rosemary Heights and South Meridian)
May 14 at Earl Marriott (Earl Marriott)
May 15 at Elgin Park (Chantrell Creek, Crescent Park, Elgin Park, Ocean Cliff and Ray Shepherd)
May 16 at Semiahmoo (Bayridge, H.T. Thrift, Semiahmoo, Semiahmoo Trail, Sunnyside and White Rock)
Families are encouraged to attend the specific evening for their own school in order to balance forum attendance
numbers for each meeting. However, as the information presented at each forum will be the same, if you cannot attend
on your evening, you are welcome to attend any one of the meetings if the times suit you better.
To provide feedback, please complete the survey at www.placespeak.com/sd36capitalplan by June 15, 2018. Alternatively, remove the feedback form from this package and return the completed survey to your school, or post to: Grandview Heights Secondary, Surrey Schools, 14033 92 Ave. Surrey B.C. V3V0B7

Introducing the options
All four options presented in this package aim to balance enrolment now and in the future, and reduce the need for
temporary space. These options leave some space in the South Surrey-White Rock secondary schools to
accommodate students from future residential development.
In preparing these options, the school district was guided by Surrey Board of Education policy, specifically, Policy 9200:
School Catchment Areas, and Policy 9320: Registration and Placement of Students.
In all four options, the following elementary schools would transition their students into the following secondary schools:
Grandview Heights Secondary: East Kensington, Morgan, Pacific Heights (¾), Rosemary Heights, Sunnyside
Earl Marriott Secondary: Hall’s Prairie, Pacific Heights (¼), Peace Arch, South Meridian
Elgin Park Secondary: Chantrell Creek, Crescent Park, Ocean Cliff, Ray Shepherd
Semiahmoo Secondary: H.T. Thrift
The options vary in which secondary school they propose students from Bayridge, Jessie Lee, Semiahmoo Trail and
White Rock elementary schools attend, as well as placement of the secondary French Immersion program, which would
impact Laronde.
No matter what option is selected, students in their Grade 12 year will not be required to change schools. Furthermore,
a transition committee with parents and student representation from the affected schools will be established once new
catchment boundaries have been approved to identify issues and opportunities and help facilitate the transition.
There are minor administrative elementary school catchment boundary changes indicated in the options but these
would not affect students as they do not include residential areas.
While Surrey Schools has presented four options that have been explored and it has preferred one, the district is open
to hearing other suggestions. Please use the final question in the feedback form or the online survey to share your

Elementary Boundary Moves: Jessie Lee to Earl Marriott (phased), Semiahmoo Trail to Elgin Park (phased),
White Rock to Semiahmoo (phased)
French Immersion would remain at Earl Marriott and the IB and IBC programs would remain at Semiahmoo.
Grandview Heights would open below capacity, but Semiahmoo would exceed capacity. Split catchments would
be eliminated at Jessie Lee and White Rock elementary schools. In 10 years, enrolment would be more evenly
distributed across all four South Surrey-White Rock secondary schools.
This option is best aligned with Surrey Board of Education policy.
