September was a month full of sur-prises and near misses. Thank Heavens we missed Irma, or rather, Irma missed us. 2018 Elections .The time is coming up for the election of

next year's team members who will set the

vision, coordinate activities, and the busi-

ness of our club. I encourage each member

to consider your skills, time, and talent. De-

cide if 2018 is your year of giving back to

the club by taking on a leadership position.

Reach out to any board member or commit-

tee chair and get their insight. Commit to a

larger cause, it goes by quicker than you

can image.

Pricing Change for Non-Members

We have had a lot of guests in the club

which is excellent and in no way do we want to

discourage their interest in the club. It is

through guests visiting the club that we gain

new members and meet new friends. The board

is keenly aware of the value to you as members,

and the club as a whole, when we can have

guests participate in our enjoyment and enrich-

ing our lives.

However, it is likely that you all may not

know how much our services, drinks and meals

are subsidized by our dues. The board has wres-

tled with this issue and decided we would ask

guests, who are enjoying the club, to aid us in

this subsidy. Our first desire would be that they

submit an application for membership, but until

they make that decision we have decided to add

a 20% surcharge to all payments made without

a member number.

We will add information to the menu and

begin this process in September. Please help our

guests understand the reasons for this and how

much we appreciate their support.

Lecture Series – The Rest of the Story with Ed and Sharon Barger–Wednesday, Oct 18th, at6:30 pm. In June Sharon and Ed presented the first couple of years living on their boat in the Bahamas. They will continue the story and include their stops in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The first half was fascinating, funny and amaz-ing. Don’t miss Part 2! GLYC Sailing Team–We have com-pleted eight regattas which was our goal for the year. Our next regatta is at Fairhope on September 30th and Oct 1st. Islanders Raft-Up – Destin Seafood Festival–The Islanders will leave on Oct. 6th and spend that night in Na-varre, then continue on to the Destin Harbor for several nights to attend the Destin Seafood Festival. From there some boats are continuing on to Pa-nama City and Port St. Joe while others will be returning to Pensacola. Please see Terry Smith for additional informa-tion. Kayaking Every Thursday Morning at 8:30 – Contact Susan Arner if you have any questions about this.

We have had a very hot and humid month. Hope all have stayed cool. We had the I-beams painted on the ground floor. It looks a lot better but they missed several spots and are coming back to redo and make it right. We have some pilings and finger piers that need to be replaced and or re-paired. There are several wet slips on the east and west sides of the dock. There are a couple of dry slips available for a jet ski and a small boat. If you are interested, see me. Please do not block the loading/unloading area on the dock. Pets must be kept on a short leash. Please clean up behind them. See you on the wa-

ter. Jimmy Taylor, Rear Commodore

P.S. Remember, Club members can use the transient slip for over night

CRAPPY CRAFTER CORNER

Another amazing Crappy Crafter gathering on the 12th. Thanks to Vicki for leading us in a fun filled day making pumpkin wall hangings. We had fourteen of us making cute pumpkins of all varieties. Should have gotten a picture of our creations. After cleaning up our messes, we headed to Fisherman’s Corner for another hour of fun and laughs. Our October gathering will be a ride on the Pirate Ship on the 10th. We have 20 already signed up so if’n ya want to go, please get in touch with Cheri or Jeanne ASAP. It’s only $35.00 for a fun filled ride, then lunch with the bunch. Cheri will be emailing details soon. Our Biloxi trip was a great success, thanks, again, to our Bartender, Georgia, her bar backs, Mike and Marti, Marti for the Mimosas, Dean for her famous Rum Punch, Staff for the Bloody Marys, me for the cheese cake shots, and Meg and Shari for their snacks. There were more snacks, cookies and rice crispy treats brought by some of the Snugbugs but didn’t get the names of the bringers. Thanks, y’all for all your help. Could-n’t have done it without ya. Hope our first-timers, the Snug Bugs, had fun and will return again. The winners for Bingo were Bob Grabham, Ethan Hoffman, and Dean Hoffman. d Emma Robinson got the 50/50. On the ride back we had Norma Jolly, Marilyn Donelan, and Tony Derusseau as winners of Bingo. Our next Biloxi trip, well, D Iberville, will be to the Scarlett Pearl. Their free play is $20.00 with a half off buffet. Not sure of the date yet, but it won’t be too long. If y’all have any input, please let me know. Our October Birthday girls are Carolyn on the 13th, Dean on the 14th, Kathy Mc on the 22nd, and Lee on the 24th. Make it memorable. Happy crafting y’all, Kathy
