The areas shown on both slides are non-relevant and are in fact Rayleigh scatter. Rayleigh scatter is a form of coherent scattering caused by diffraction of the incident beam by the crystal matrix of the alloy. The crystalline structure acts as a diffraction grating thereby lensing the beam.
