On November 14, Skyhaven Airport hosted over 50 Whiteman AFB Warriors at its first ever Whiteman Night. The night was a huge success and allowed these airmen to become more familiar with what UCM Aviation has to offer. There was a large interest shown in the A&P certificate initiative proposed by Professor Fred Schieszer and Director of Maint. Steve Quick. There was also a representative from the FAA that was able to answer any questions the airman might have had. The airmen were given a full tour of the terminal building, Hangar 3, and the MULE Center because none of them had ever been to Skyhaven Airport before! Many claimed that they had no idea what facilities and aircraft UCM Aviation has available to students. Throughout the night 16 airmen were able to fly on orientation night flights. Over 15 students stated that they were interested in pursuing an aviation degree and will be able to do so by taking classes at Whiteman AFB. Many helped in making Whiteman Night such a huge success especially Vicki Orcutt, WAFB Site Coordinator. Another thanks goes out to Harold Phillips and the FBO team and Darlene Loeffler and the CFI’s who flew orientation flights. January 2014 Whiteman Night at Skyhaven Airport Donations Needed for New Glider Last July a summer storm came through the Kansas City area and severely damaged the University’s Schweizer SGS 2-33A glider. The aviation department is now proactively looking for a replacement glider and donations to help fund the purchase. Any donation and/or information about gliders on sale would be highly appreciated so glider operations can resume as soon as possible. If you have any information or would like to donate, please contact Bill Runyon at 660-543-4184 ( [email protected] ). Garmin Aviation Product Support Internship Are you interested in working as a Garmin Aviation Product Support Intern? Would you like to gain professional experience and learn more about Garmin avionics? Garmin will be visiting UCM Aviation on Wednesday, January 22 in search of students who are interested in working over the summer as a paid intern. Students are encouraged to dress for success and bring a copy of their resume as Pat Coleman, Supervisor of Aviation Product Support, and his colleagues in Human Resources will be conducting onsite interviews in TR Gaines 214. The event will start at 1:00pm and Mr. Coleman and his team will be around to answer any questions students may have. If you have a class that conflicts with this time then please contact a faculty member about receiving an excusal letter. Please help spread the word and tell other aviation students about this great opportunity! If you are unable to make this event then you can still apply online.
