This week the Tanglewood Marionettes performed their production of “The Dragon King” for the entire school. Based on a Chinese folk tale, it tells the story of a grandmother who journeys to the bottom of the sea to seek the Dragon King and find out why he has forsaken the land above. Sponsored by the PTO, the Tanglewood Marionettes have been coming to the Cole school for many years and is always a favorite with students and teachers. On Thursday, the cast and crew of Norwell Middle School’s production of “High School Musical” came to present a sneak peak of their show. All of our students enjoyed seeing their older siblings, neighbors or friends sing and dance. The staff also enjoyed seeing their former Cole students shine. Also on Thursday, our 4th & 5th graders were visited by author Jonathan Auxier. He spoke to the students about his book, “Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes”, his literary influences and the process of writing. His enthusiasm had many of the students eager to read and write! GET FIT ACROSS AMERICA Cole’s 4th graders are participating in Mr. Thornton’s Get Fit Across America program by keeping track of their weekly exercise. In conjunction with the 4th grade social studies curriculum that studies different regions of the country the children will travel across America using the miles generated from each student’s physical activity. For every mile a student runs or walks, the miles will be logged to see how far they can travel across and around America. For each physical activity or sport a student completes (swimming, cycling, dancing, gymnastics, skating, jump roping, shoveling snow, basketball, soccer, hockey just to name a few) it will count for just 1 mile. The bulletin board is up and is ready for miles! LEGO ROBOTICS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Volunteers are needed to help with the Recess Robotics program. This program is open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and is completely parent driven. It gives students an opportunity to build and run a Lego robot giving them valuable engineering experience in a fun way. More parents are needed to ensure that all students who wish to participate get a chance this season. Training will be provided.
