“Kiley and I...Our Recipe Corner”

by-Rosemary MaurerMy niece, Kiley, and I bake together all the time. We will spend weekends trying new recipes to share with our family. She is my best friend and the best little baking assistant anyone could ever have. When Randie asked me to put a recipe column in the newsletter, I thought it would be a great time to share with our Glendale family some of the fun things that Kiley and I make.Since the weather has been so hot and humid lately, we had to come up with something that is cool and doesn’t require the oven. With this kind of weather, what is more refreshing than some fresh fruit, but Kiley and I like to put a little twist on it and make a dip for the fruit. Take equal parts of fluff and cream cheese; combine the two ingredients with an electric mixer until smooth. Take a large plate, put a bowl of the dip in

the center and place any type of fresh fruit that you like around the dipping bowl. Some of our favorite fruits are strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, red & green grapes, and honeydew.Another twist is to use strawberry cream cheese in stead of plain and mix with the fluff. You now have a strawberry dip that goes great with a plate of strawberries. This is a very big hit at our houses and is something cool to serve while you are sitting around the pool or during your barbecue.Kiley and I hope you try this and enjoy it as much as our family does. Until the next issue, try baking with someone you love to spend time with and who makes your heart really happy; that’s what Kiley does for me.

Pet Therapy, very big at Glendale Uptown Home. It’s not a substitute for psychotherapy. Animal’s presence offers a healing message. This in re turn can open the door for the healing human. With a dog, we have a friend who is always loyal, always available and completely uncritical. How can anyone pass a four-legged friend without putting on a smile? Pet therapy visits bring delight, tears, reminisce and quiet contentment that comes from a renewal and strengthening of our bond with living, responsive animal/companions who share our space and time.
