Methodologies for risk assessment and man-agement are transferable between risk settingsand cultures. Moreover, an indicator system v mg vs,
performances and results with regard to

Risk governance is a moving target in theEu s . I, s sks their governance are constantly evolvingthrough scientific discoveries and techno-logical innovation, governance practicesevolve too through natural learning processesand social science research. This is why it istime to revisit the notion of Risk Govern-ance in the light of recent studies and projectssu by Eu Cmmss.

Beyond the usual participants in researchprogrammes at EU level most of the projects
u u FP6-SS v b s sks. Cv sy g-sations and policymakers notably have beensolicited as full partners. It was thereforeonly natural to have them as well in this RiskGvs Sm.
The quality of risk governance is improved if s b g u ssus(taking a broad scope), and an element ofgg gums bjv y b ymksand the general public. This calls for clarityin the scientific basis and the ethical andvu- ms ssb s.Clarity comes before consensus and shouldbe organised avoiding polarization butnot necessarily with the objective to createconsensus (CARGO).
