I. Preamble

The Department of Mathematics was started in 1948. It is one of the oldest

Departments of our college. The Department is very well known for its quality education

imparted to the students by well experienced and eminent faculty. Since last 68 years this

department has created hundreds of students who have occupied various professions at

national and international levels. The Department is teaching Mathematical science to the

students facilitating them to acquire the B.Sc Degree. The curriculum is set by the

Kuvempu University, which comprises both basic and applied aspects of Mathematics.

The Department has very good result records, which is 96-98 percent every year.

The Department is headed by Swetha. T. M who is well experienced in managing the

Department and also excellent in teaching. The other faculty of the Department,

Jagadeesh. K. C. is also well experienced and dedicated in his work and also the

department has well experienced and dedicated guest lecturers.

Since last 68 years hundreds of students have gained education from the

department. A good number of students are opting Mathematics as an optional, as the

subject is useful for the students in their future ventures for learning other subjects and it

self since it has applications in all branches of science.

The performance and efficiency of the department can be assessed by looking the

results which are always high during the past years. The department is putting continuous

effort to equip itself to face the need of the day.

II. CURRICULUM ASPECTS

The Kuvempu University has implemented Semester Scheme for the

undergraduate course from the academic year 2003-04. Accordingly, the undergraduate

course includes six semesters of three years duration. The curriculum is prepared by the

expert committee, i.e. BOS by the University. The curriculum prescribed by the

Kuvempu University in Mathematics encompasses both fundamental and applied aspects

of Mathematics.

III. TEACHING LEARNING AND EVALUATION

III A . FACULTY PROFILE :

The Department has well experienced and dedicated team of teachers to quench

the desire of students who join the institution to learn Mathematics. The teachers are

specialized in various fields and help in theoretical and practical exposure of the students.

The Department is headed by Swetha. T.M. Assistant Professor and HOD, who is

well experienced in managing the Department and also in teaching. she joined the

profession in 05-09-2009 through KPSC. At present,she has 08 years of experience. she

has attended orientation course, refresher course and several seminars, workshops,

trainings and conferences.

Assistant Professor K.C. Jagadeesh joined the profession on 07-09-2009 through

KPSC. He also has attended orientation course, refresher course and several seminars,

workshops, trainings and conferences.

III. B) I) INFRASTRUCTURE

The Department has separate partition situated in the general staff room.

Classrooms are well equipped with all essential materials. Separate classrooms are

allotted for all three year B.Sc students. Classes runs in both morning and afternoon

sessions.

III.B) II) DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY

The Department has no separate library. All books are available in the

general library. Essential and sufficient number of books available for students learning and

teachers teaching. Sufficient number of reference materials of the recent authors publications

also available for student reference.

III. B) (V) HEALTHY PRACTICES

The learning of Mathematical science becomes meaningful when it is learnt with

close proximity to the real life because of its abstract nature.

The students are exposed to the real use of the mathematical concepts in real life

and future learning and its applications in other subjects and fields.

The students are being motivated to conduct projects on various topics.

The students are being motivated to involve in seminars and group discussions.

The students are being motivated towards social outlook, community service,

patriotism, sacrifice etc. through NSS,RED CROSS, Science club.

Instituting cash prizes to the meritorious students through college science club, not

only in the subject but also in other skills.

III. B) (VI) ACHIEVEMENTS

The Department has a record of good results at University level. Many of our

students have got jobs in reputed private sector companies and as a teachers in

schools and colleges. Final year B.Sc. results are near to 100% in last few years.

Few students from all first, second and final year are securing 100% marks in the

mathematics theory paper,some of the students also secured ranks.Many students

are doing B.Ed after this course and taking mathematics as their teaching subject

at school level. Some are doing higher education like M.Sc in mathematics in

various universities in the state
