she was a member and officer of the animal science organization, Block and Bridle. Abby grew up

State Fair Tickets New in 2019! 4-H youth exhibiting static exhibits at the Nebraska State Fair will
order advance discount tickets directly from the Nebraska State Fair. Discount tickets will no longer be avail-
able through the county offices. Details on ordering tickets will be available soon. All livestock exhibitors and
in-person event exhibitors (contests, fashion show, presentations) will still be able to order discounted tickets
when they enter in ShoWorks for State Fair.
Companion Animal Showmanship information has been updated on the website at https://4h.unl.edu/companion-animal/showmanship-contest. Entries for the Video Companion Animal Show-manship Contests are being accepted from June 1st to August 10th. Contest rules and regulations can be found on the website along with Cat and ferret Vaccination forms, Cat Showmanship worksheets, example questions, and more. Youth should schedule a time to record their presentations with their local Extension office.
Calibraska A cool opportunity in Scottsbluff and North Platte! Seven different classes in animation. Eri-ca Larsen-Dockrary, a Nebraska native/UNL grad who is now living in California. Erica is involved in Cali-braska, an effort to connect CA and NE and bring emerging media arts to those who might not otherwise have access. You can find more at: http://www.calibraska.org. There are a number of offerings and noon-time video calls with animators and professionals from Netflix, DreamWorks Animation, CBS, Disney, and more. The kids get swag too. Workshops are primarily multigenerational so if any project leaders/volunteers/etc would like to take a class they can!
Why is herdsmanship important?
Herdsmanship is the first thing the public sees re-
garding how we treat our animals. County Fair is
often the only time the public sees livestock up
close and personal, so we need to make sure they
see how well you care for those animals and their
well-being on a daily basis. This means clean stalls,
clean aisles, clean and healthy animals.
Because many more people see your animal in
the barn than the show ring, exhibitors are expected
to maintain barn, feeding, and grooming conditions
that will insure the good health and safety of the ani-
mals in their care, and will show consideration and
sensitivity toward the public visiting the fair.
All 4-H Clubs and Independent 4-H Members exhibiting
livestock will be judged on Herdsmanship.
Herdsmanship will be judged Thursday-Friday Herdsmanship will be judged between 8 a.m. and 8
p.m. There will be no judging of species during its show
Fair Entry Day Sack Lunches The American Legion Auxiliary will offer Entry Day Sack Lunches for our 4-H families on Wednesday, July 24 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Use the west door of the Civic Center to gain access to the back door of the Legion Hall.

Gosper Ag Barn Clean-Up Day Gosper County 4-H Council
Showmanship and the Table Show (judging of the birds) will be at the same time this year. Starts at 9 am on Saturday August 31st
Duck and Goose Classes still exist but there will no longer be a champion or reserve duck and goose, rather They’re now combined into “Waterfowl”
No Turkeys this year
The families can nominate 10 individual birds by that August 10th deadline. This is similar to the rabbits. They have to pay for those 10 birds but may only show 5.
Substitutions can only be made within the class. So for instance, A large chicken may only be substitut-ed for another large chicken, etc. This is due to the cage size requirements for the chickens. Those substituted birds must be nominated first though.
The kids are only allowed to bring 1 dozen eggs total. Not 1 dozen of each color.
The Nebraska State Fair The Nebraska State Fair is held each year at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in Grand Island, Nebraska.
This year's event will be held August 23 - September 2, 2019. Visit the Nebraska 4-H State Fair Fair-
book for information about 4-H static and animal exhibits, as well as 4-H in-person contests and competi-
tions happening at the State Fair. Additional information and resources are also available for individuals
interested in exhibiting 4-H live animals, participating in 4-H contests, volunteering with 4-H, and judging 4
-H exhibits.
All in person State Fair Exhibits must be entered into the State Fair System by August 10.
