“GosFes”

BIRMINGHAM’S BEST KEPT SECRET

“GosFes” is one of those great ideas that feels as if it has been

around for a long time but in actual fact is quite new and one of

Birmingham’s best kept secrets.

“GosFes” or “Gospel Festival” is a faith based street celebration

which welcomes all peoples and is an expression of the joy of life.

In a fragmented society it seeks to promote oneness through music

and arts. It is the brain child of one of the talented music director of the Church of God of Prophecy Farm Street, Bancroft Tabannor.

I said “GosFes” is was one of Birmingham’s best kept secrets, but

not any longer, as it now offers a wide selection of workshops, and

has already been awarded a prestigious award for its unique

contributions to the community

“GosFes” is now set to explode into the national scene and

beyond.

It has been a privilege for the Church of God of Prophecy Farm Street Hockley Birmingham to be a part of it and in some small way

to have contributed to such a gigantic dream.

GosFes 2007 will also provide great opportunities for charities, businesses, statutory agencies and media organisations keen to

The Witness is one of the UK’s prolific Gospel Reggae/Dancehall artists, with a string of awards and achievements to

garnish his 10 year career which has seen him perform to

varied audiences in the UK and abroad.

Witness grew up in Lee Bank, Birmingham. He had a deep love for music from an early age, with a particular slant

towards Reggae/Dancehall. He grew up listening to artists

including Papa San, Shabba Ranks, Tiger, Ninja man and Lieutenant Stitchie. By his mid teens,

Witness started to lose focus in life and also began to fall away

from the Education system getting himself into scraps with the Police. As time went on, teenage life for Witness became one

of survival as he found himself without any

direction and felt there was very little support structure around him. By age 17, The Witness had a life changing

experience when he became a Born Again Christian. His focus

and direction began to change as he diverted his energies away from the negative aspects of his lifestyle

changing them into positive. His love for music remained and

he soon began writing songs which were positive and inspiring

causing listeners of all ages and backgrounds to be uplifted and encouraged. Due to his humorous character and his ability to

inspire audiences he began to receive

invitations, initially for events in Birmingham and the West Midlands. His demand grew and he soon found himself

travelling across the UK and abroad.

artistes such as Papa San and Carleen Davies.

Cleve ‘’Stitchie’’ Laing was raised in Spanish Town Jamaica and has been recording reggae music since 1983. Initially a

high school teacher by profession, in 1987 he chose to pursue a

full-time career in music. In 1988 he made history by

becoming the first dancehall reggae artist signed to a major label-Atlantic Records. He recorded three albums for

Atlantic Records and one for Shanachie. This chart topping,

award winning, world renowned, dancehall reggae rapper/singer has sustained momentum

throughout his career with a dynamic stage show, heavy

touring, and hit singles.

Although he was a secular artist for well over a decade, his lyrics were always positive as he continued his search for

spiritual truth in the world.

Ministry Statement:

‘‘Stitchie, a Bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ is committed to boldly proclaim the Gospel through reggae

music globally, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, to save,

heal, and deliver people in the name of Jesus Christ’’.

About Lynette White

Born in Bronx, New York to Caribbean parents,

Lynette remembers music as one of the biggest parts of her

life. Raised in the church, she was inspired by the sounds of

James Cleveland and Shirley Caesar but could not escape her

cultural roots and vividly recalls the deep soulful

reggae music that permeated the community. At an early age, family members realized her vocal ability and often had her

perform for friends at parties.

Lynette began her solo career at the age of 12 with The Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Inc.,in Long Beach California after her family’s reloca-tion. Throughout her high school years she was an active member of her church choir as well as Solid Rock Community Choir, with whom she toured the local circuit extensively.

When the Lord led Rico to form Shekinah Ministries Sound

System in 1996 it was seen as very controversial because many

Christians believed Reggae music had no place in the church

and neither did a sound system playing with 18 inch speakers.

Some Pastors told members of their congregation not to attend

Shekinah

outreaches for fear of being corrupted. But just as Jesus did not

come for the righteous, Shekinah was not built for the Church!

There were no qualms in going against the grain and breaking

through barriers as far as the church was concerned.

After organizing a series of free outreaches in the city of

Birmingham U.K., It soon became clear that Shekinah was

tapping into something unique with regards to spreading the

gospel. The fruits of this were many accepting Jesus Christ as

their Lord and Savior.

Presently the Sound System consists of four key members,

Spanna (The Tool in God's Hand, Who is also a recording

artist; Miller the Selecta; Brother Keith (The Poet) and Singing

D, the singer who has been likened to the late Garnett Silk.

The Shekinah Sound System has played alongside top

Gospel Reggae artists like Stitchie, Junior Tucker, Chevelle

Franklyn and Judy Mowatt to name a few... They have also

been privileged to link up with top secular sound systems like

Stone Love from Jam Down and Luv Injection from the UK.

No matter what the occasion, Shekinah always seeks to

promote the Love of Jesus Christ and have been truly blessed

to have been the ones chosen to pioneer a move of Christian

Sound Systems that gives God all the Glory while making a

difference.

Shekinah Ministries is a group of Christians who regard

Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Our aim is promote Jesus

Christ through contemporary Christian music, which we

believe to be a powerful medium reaching out to lost souls.
