WHAT IS IT? WHY?
GOLDEN OLDIES
As an industry we’re having to consider a new consumer group and how to meet their evolving needs and desires.
The increasing life expectancy and growing ageing population is becoming reality, but not a harsh one. The outlook on ageing is increasingly bright; including increased spending on things and experiences.
A need for consumers to fulfil happiness, they are becoming more demanding on what and how they want things, and that doesn’t just relate to product. We are talking service, experience and more…
People are on a quest for efficiency and success, and self-actualisation. We see ourselves as “work in progress”, money can’t buy happiness so we look for emotional connection and empowerment in all areas of life, “How can I get more out of my life?” is the constant question.
Voiced by ‘Festive Fred’, Morrisons self checkout machines are said to have the UK’s cheeriest voice and this has been built on scientific principles.
Through a series of experiments to find out which voices customers love the most, a sounds engineer created a formula for the cheeriest voice of all, based on characteristics such as words per minute, pauses between sentences and pitch variation.
Festive Fred says things like “have yourself a very Merry Christmas from Morrisons.”
Two venues in London: Kingly Street Deli & Fitzroy Place. Their GrabNGo range also stocked in the likes of Selfridges & Harvey Nics
The Detox Kitchen Kitchen and Pip and Nut team up to launch social media campaign #pimpyourkale. They asked consumers to Instagram and tweet their recipes
With an increasingly multinational and multicultural society, the arrival of new cuisines on the UK market is to be expected.
Here are some well established cuisines that appeal to the masses and are here to stay. For each cuisine, we have suggested a restaurant that we recommend you visit!
Still quite fresh on the UK scene are the following cuisines. They are either new and in the early stages of innovation or mainstream trends that have evolved to adopt a more regional, authentic approach.
There are 4 dishes on the menu and all cost £4 and come with a cup of tea or coffee. The options are: Creme Egg toastie, a Creme Egg tray bake, strawberries and Creme Egg, and Creme Egg and soldiers. Soho, London.
