EVERY GIRL - EVERY DAY 24 April 2020 Good News from Croydon High Community Service We love hearing about the various ways our pupils are supporting their local community! Lucy started drawing positive slogans outside the houses of a few neighbours who were self-isolating. This resulted in more local residents requesting slogans and drawings to cheer up the road! Her sister Ella decided to draw pet portraits – Jemima the chicken and Buddy the golden retriever. The feedback has been so lovely and they’re enjoying hearing people commenting as they walk past. Lucy and Ella were then challenged to devise a sensory walk for people to complete and something for small children to enjoy – they certainly rose to the challenge. The trail involved a hop scotch, star jumps, and more fun activities. It has been a huge hit, with many families walking down their road to give the trail a go.

Good News from Croydon High
Community Service
We love hearing about the various ways our pupils are supporting their local community!
Lucy started drawing positive slogans outside the
houses of a few neighbours who were self-isolating.
This resulted in more local residents requesting
slogans and drawings to cheer up the road! Her sister
Ella decided to draw pet portraits – Jemima the
chicken and Buddy the golden retriever. The feedback
has been so lovely and they’re enjoying hearing
people commenting as they walk past.
Lucy and Ella were then challenged to devise a
sensory walk for people to complete and something for small children to enjoy
– they certainly rose to the challenge. The trail involved a hop scotch, star jumps, and more fun
activities. It has been a huge hit, with many families walking down their road to give the trail a
go.

When they learned it was a neighbour’s birthday and her first birthday
as a widow, Lucy and Ella rallied together to cheer her up by
decorating her hedge, baking a cake, and – with Ella teaching herself
the tune on a flute – singing happy birthday to her from the end of the
drive.
These acts of kindness have meant the whole
family are making some great friends in the local
community, albeit remotely! Well done Lucy and
Ella.
Meanwhile, Alara has been doing her bit for her local community too.
Since before lockdown, her mum has been helping Selsdon Contact and
has become the point of contact for anyone vulnerable on their road that
may need assistance with shopping, picking up prescriptions, or any other
help they may need outside the home.
Alara has also been helping her mum make fabric masks for a care home

using repurposed curtain fabric, which will be delivered in conjunction with the meals Croydon
High is providing on Fridays and delivered by Croydon firemen!
Independent Learning Success
Following a suggestion from Miss Cotton, Anna completed a MOOC for independent learning
and we were delighted to hear that she received 100% in both modules! The course was ‘Gender
and Sexuality: Application in Society’.
Girl Up Teen Advisor
More success for Anna, who has been selected for the next round of ‘Girl Up Teen Advisor’
applications. She’ll be doing some interview practice with Miss Cotton to prepare. Good luck,
Anna!
Baking for the Neighbours
This week, Maddie baked 75 chocolate shortbread biscuits
for her local community. They were packed into little bags
and delivered to neighbours and friends while out on an
hour-long walk around her village! The biscuits brought
out lots of smiles from neighbours at the bottom of their
drives.
Letter from Cat Hepburn
Last year, the pupils who took their play She to Edinburgh Fringe also
had the chance to see performance poet Cat Hepburn in action. After Mrs
Webb messaged her on Twitter recently, Cat mailed her a copy of her play
Girlhood with the following message:
“It truly was a pleasure seeing the Croydon High Drama Group that day
of my show and speaking to all of you after was honestly one of my
