President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux
Spring is just around the corner and the snow birds will start to
prepare for their return north. The office has a list on how to close your
unit up for the summer. We have a lot of new residents and the list will
help you to close your places up. Stop by the office and pick up a list.
We are completing the fencing in the last area of the park. The bid
has been approved and the fence people will be filing for a permit with
the city. We will have all white vinyl fencing throughout the park. The
old chain link rusted fence will be covered up.
We are also having some sidewalks replaced. We went around and did a survey of the
worst areas and made a list to replace a large amount of sidewalks. We know there is still a good
amount left to complete. We will be looking at replacing more sidewalks in the future.
We are also having all the sidewalks pressure washed to remove the black colored mold.
This will start near the end of April. Ron Tasior and Bob Mickle took a look at all the mold
throughout the park when they were doing the sidewalk survey.
It is the time of year when we have our oak trees trimmed. We went around with the
arborist to determine what trees to trim. He also recommended removing three trees that were in
bad shape and might give us a problem in the future.
We are also planning on replace the hard wood trees that we removed last year. Judy
Fitzpatrick and Joe Lemon have been working closely with the arborist on the type of trees and
where to plant them. The city told us we have to replace twenty one hard wood trees. We are still
going to replace some palm trees in the next month.
It is also the time of year to complete a yearly maintenance check on all of our equipment
including the air conditioners in the club house and the generator to make sure they are in good
working order.
We have also made a change in the office. Jo Ellen requested more time off to be with her
family. We decided to grant the time she needs and to hire temporary help to fill in during her
absence. Sue Bailey has agreed to work the office in her place. She will be training over the
course of the next month to see how our office operates. We the board will be looking forward to
working with Sue.
From the Editor’s Desk By Sue Bailey
Greetings:
Well spring is finally here, although here at Golden Acres we
fared well during the winter as far as climate is concerned (except the
Thursday golf league and the evening fun shuffle where more
frequently the weather wasn’t permitting).
We at Golden Acres have had a very busy month as you will see
in the many articles reported for this month. Some of the activities will
occur toward the end of March but after the publishing of this
newsletter, so they will be reported in next month’s newsletter (such as Progressive Cards, St.
Patrick’s Dance, the Golf League Banquets, the Shuffle Banquet, our Board Picnic at Philippe
Park, the bowling banquet, and the Spring/Fling Dinner/Dance). So stay posted for some fun and
exciting events coming up.
This is a bitter-sweet time when many of you will be heading back to the north and
saying goodbye to all your fellow residents until fall comes again. Hopefully the spring thaw of
all that snow is pretty much over by the time you get there. If you are traveling this month, I wish
you a safe journey to get to your destination.
As April approaches, here are some notable events to remember:
April Fools’ Day on April 1st (sometimes called All Fools Day) is one of the most light-
hearted days of the year. Practices include sending someone on a "fool's errand," looking
for things that don't exist; playing pranks; and trying to get people to believe ridiculous
things.
National Tartan Day is April 6th and is celebrated in both the United States and Canada.
It honors and celebrates Scottish culture and the role it has played in the development of
both our countries. Our Delightful Dunedin is of Scottish heritage as well.
Passover starts April 15th and Easter is on April 20th: HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!
April 15th is the deadline for income taxes here in the United States, but you Canadians
have a couple more weeks since your taxes are due on April 30th.
April 22nd is Earth Day, a special day that celebrates the Earth to promote environmental
awareness, call for protection of our planet, appreciate nature and learn ways to protect
our environment.
April 25th is Arbor Day when the Arbor Day Foundation inspires people to plant,
nurture, and celebrate trees. Maybe our new trees for the park will be planted around this
time!
Until next time,
May God bless and keep you well and safe…
Notes from the Office By Jo Ellen Bryant
Things are still bustling along here in the office. I cannot keep the FOR SALE flyer box
stocked. No sooner do I put out a dozen flyers, they’re gone. Our attorneys are very helpful
coming to the office to help with refinance signings. Closings are occurring in a very timely
manner. We have had two new units listed in the last week: Lot 78 the Perrault’s and 219 Betty
Reed’s unit.
There are so many new faces in the park. Just to make certain you know our newest
owners, I have started with purchases from March 2013 to present. My apologies to Ron and
Nancy Short for the feature story I did last month, but not listing them as a new owner. I ask
forgiveness.
We would like to welcome the following new residents which are listed in the
chronological order of closings from last March 2013 till present:
172 Putt Bishop and Lanying Tjie - from Manchester, NH – featured in the March 2013
newsletter.
125 Bill and Karen Obermark – from St. Louis, Mo.
43 Keith and Barbara Pylinski - from Norwich, NY - featured in the February newsletter.
41 Vinnie Anton - from the Cape in Massachusetts – featured in the January newsletter.
44 Ron and Nancy Short – from Ontario – featured in the March newsletter.
97 Norma Middlecamp - from Dunedin, Florida – featured in April newsletter.
186 Anna-Lisa and Denis Deluca - from North Bay, Toronto.
140 Linda and Frank St. Peter - from Billerica, Massachusetts.
147 Wayne and Moya Bettridge - from Newcastle, Ontario.
136 Lorne and Cheryl Taylor sold 147 and bought 136 - from Gorham, Ontario featured in
May 2012 newsletter.
93 Janis Garvey - from Jeannete, PA and Ian Monroe from Niagara Falls, NY.
156 Donna and Joseph Bramante - from Derry, New Hampshire.
33 Thomas Crosby and Pat Jones - from Worth, Illinois.
I hope to feature each new person on this list eventually. Since most of you are away, the
best time to feature new residents is in the 6 months starting November - April. If you have
photos from an event, I will gladly post them on our GA web site. Simply bring a thumb drive to
the office or email a handful of images. Please forgive in advance any omissions.
Please remember to sign out when you leave the park. Ask a neighbor or a year round
resident to keep an eye on your shrubs and bushes if possible. You can also call the Sheriff’s
Office to be put on their “drive through the park” list over the summer. We also have a check
list of things to do when you leave, which will be given out at coffee and we will post in the
newsletter.
Please remember if guests are using your unit over the summer, you must inform us via
email or a phone call, and then your guests need to sign in upon arrival. We love guests but we
like to know they are legitimate. Everyone have a wonderful summer, your smiling faces and
happy dispositions will be missed. Snow birds - do think of us during the bloody hot summers
and rainy hurricane seasons.
Welcome New Resident
Norma Middlecamp, Unit 97
Has anyone noticed a very lovely attractive blond
cruising around in a BMW convertible in the park?
Amazingly talented, having played the violin in her
younger days, she appreciates the arts, can dance a
rumba that would capture the judges on “Dancing with
the Stars”, and she is a dedicated volunteer in her church
and their mission striving to serve God and others . She
is a prime example of a woman who has aged gracefully,
with independence, a purpose, and a wisdom that beams
from her blue eyes. Last July, she was baptized fully
immersed at 85! Imagine. She was a candidate for the
Pinellas County School Board in her younger years, and
very involved and committed to the future of education,
its students, teachers, and parents.
Having settled here with her husband in 1968,
she knew she wanted to stay in an area that she loved
and was already immersed. A series of situations brought Norma to our park. Daughter Tamara
and son-in-law Bill, both retired as educators, sold their home in Dunedin, and were looking for
a place to downsize. Meanwhile they stayed with Norma in her condo on the Dunedin causeway.
When she realized they liked her condo, she decided it was time to relocate near a business
section and her favorite club, charity, and socially oriented Elks.
“There it is, she thought, “Golden Acres, a resident owned community”. Norma took one
look at the Muma coach, Lot 97, and hasn’t looked back, except when she is going out the back
gate to the Elks where she is also involved. Her first question was, “Why do we lock it”? She
moved here January 17, 2014 and says it is PERFECT for her.
Norma Eleanor Theresa Schultz was born in Baltimore, Maryland, attended schools in
Hagerstown and one in Western Maryland to become an educator. She still recalls riding the
streetcar from Weldon Avenue to downtown Baltimore to attend the Peabody Theater. After her
education, full-time work was interrupted when she met and married her husband William
Middlecamp. Then came the babies: Yvonne, Duane, and then “It can’t be, yes it was, Tamara”.
According to Norma, “My top priority is my children and their families”. According to
her, “Pathways Community Church is awesome.” The ministries are extensive, they celebrate
recovery, programs for jail and prisons, the Homeless and Missions. The church is open every
day catering to every age group.
Writing is her passion, also there is fishing, crabbing, dancing and, of course encouraging
smiles and hopefully laughter.
You can’t help but smile when you see this vivacious lady. Please welcome her with
open arms into our community.
Reminders By Paula Bunevith
You can only wash your car on Tuesday and Saturday. Also if you do not have a
container for community letters and newsletter you will not receive them. Please place numbers
on your coaches this is required by the Fire and Police Department.
50th Anniversary 2015 By Nadine Templeton and Kay Erickson
If anyone is celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2015, please make sure we
have your name and dates. In addition, please bring memorable pictures of your 50 years
together (approx. 10) to share with us in celebration of this remarkable anniversary. The pictures
are being collected by Nadine Templeton in coach #105 and Kay Erickson in coach #210.
Valentine’s Dance By Gail & Gil Callingham
The Valentine's Dance of 2014 was attended by an enthusiastic group of romantics,
entertained by Ron and the Classics. The band played well past the 10:30 closing, to the
pleasure of all.
The door prizes were won by: Rose Nisley, Jean Binette, and Neil Pilon.Special thanks
to all of those who helped with the decorating, ticket taking, and the clean up.
It is great to have fun with our G. A. Family.
CanAm 2014 By Lynn Perron Pictures by Roz Frabotta
Our annual CanAm evening took place on Thursday, February 27th. A celebration
of the special relationship we share as countries and as friends and neighbors in our wonderful
park.
After much work done by Theresa Quinn to organize the dinner and the decorating of the
Clubhouse by Mary Lou Webb and crew the evening began. Don Webb started the event with a
warm welcome and the blessing followed by a toast by the Canadians to their American friends
and the singing of both national anthems. A full house sat down to enjoy the meal of chicken
served by Theresa and her assistant Dick Donnelly and dishes prepared by those sharing a table.
The CanAm show this year, titled “Once Upon a Time in Golden Acres”, took us on a
trip back to our childhood to visit some well known fairy tales but with a Golden Acres twist.
Once again our much loved and talented Emcee Bob Sheire entertained as he led us though the
show. With the music by Mel Hearns and make-up by his wife Mary Ellen we were ready to go.
The opening song, “Once Upon a Time”, was from an old musical and set the scene.
First was the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Carol Spinney and Roz Frabotta gave us
their very funny take on the story to the song “Hey There Little Red Riding Hood”.
Next Bill and Kay Erickson as Pinocchio and The Blue Fairy portrayed an older, but not
wiser, Pinocchio who's nose changed and grew as the Blue Fairy warned with the song “Your
Nose is Gonna Grow”. The Little Mermaid friends, the CanAm dancers Marlene Scott, Carol
Diniz, Belinda Sezbenski, Nadine Templeton and Lynn Perron, danced to “Too Many Fish in the
Sea” followed by the Little Mermaid and her prince, Marsha and Ron Baylor dancing to
“Somewhere Beyond the Sea”, the fairy tale “The Frog Prince” got a lot of laughs. Mike and
Barb Cox were the Frog Prince and Princess Molly Mouse performing to the song “Froggie
Went a Courtin”. The frog turned into the prince after kissing the princess to the song “Kiss me
Once and Kiss me Twice, It's Been a Long Long Time”.
In the next story Prince Gary Collins asked Repunzel, Dick Bryant, to let down her
golden hair and was shocked that she had dyed it black.
Twelve dancers, with a variety of hair styles, performed to the song “Hair” from the
popular 1970's musical. Rita Syroteuk, Paula Bunevith, Georgina Lamoureux, Linda Duff,
Donna Richtmyer, Sandy Tilley, Roz Frabotta and the Can Am dancers. The very cute Three
Little Pigs were next. Kim Healy, Norma Miller and Sandy Tilley avoided, danced with and got
away from the big bad wolf Jack Bailey to the song “I Hear You Knockin but you Can't Come
In”.
The fairy tale “Peter Pan” began with our own smooth moving Captain Hook, Tom
Healey. Performing to the song “Hooked on a Feeling” he was joined by Tinkerbell, his wife
Carol, and her fairy friends the CanAm dancers.
Two fairies, late to the party, arrived on stage to much laughter. Ron Tasior and Ed
Richtmyer looked lovely in their tutus and wings--such good sports.
Peter Pan and Wendy, our own Fred and Ginger, Fraser and Joan Muir then flew and
floated across the floor to Frank Sinatra's “Fly Me to the Moon”.
Aladdin, Cliff Cushman, then took his wife, exotic Princess
Marilyn, on a “Magic Carpet Ride” orchestrated by the powerful Genie
Louis Legris.
The next Prince, Denny Cunningham, was seeking, to the song “Searchin'”, the Princess
Sleeping Beauty, his wife Jackie, who as we know had been asleep for a very long time. He
woke her up to the song “Wake Up Little Susie”. She was a little under the weather and had the
audience in stitches as she pulled out her bottle of courage and asked what took him so long. She
then proceeded to tell him how she had aged but in true fairy tale style he said he still loved her.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were next. The not so short Dwarfs, Gary Duff , Bob
Eckland, Ed Morin, Don Webb, Charlie Nadjiwon, Joe Corbeil and Henry Boursier gave a
wonderful performance to the song “Sixteen Tons” then Snow White and her Prince, Gail and
Gil Callingham, danced and acted out the song “Then He Kissed Me”. The Seven Dwarfs
returned to the scene to make sure the prince had honorable intentions.
The final fairy tale included several scenes. First we see Cinderella, Mary Heffernan, in
the kitchen being told what to do by her lovely step sisters, Bob McCluskey and Joe Bunevith, to
the song “Yackity Yak Don't Talk Back”. Next we see Cinderella at The Ball surrounded by all
the fairy tale couples dancing to the song “In the Midnight Hour”.
The Prince, Kent Wood, finds Cinderella who is radiantly transformed but, as the story
goes, she leaves at midnight leaving behind her shoe. The step sisters try to make it fit to too
much laughter. As we know the prince finds Cinderella, the shoe fits, and he proposes. Next we
see a hilarious skit with Prince Kent getting himself ready for his wedding. With Mary
Heffernan's hands doing the work of washing, shaving, make-up and other beautification, to the
song “Get Me to the Church on Time”, the audience roared with laughter. In the final scene we
have Sleeping Beauty and her Prince, Snow White and her Prince and Cinderella and her Prince,
all dressed for their weddings, coming on stage to the song “Goin' to the Chapel and We're
Gonna' Get Married”. And of course they all lived happily ever after.
We closed the show, as always, with our signature Finale number “A New Attitude”.
With the entire cast coming in from the five entrances to the Clubhouse. This is a chance to
showcase the cast and sing to our friends in the park old and new. Finally we had the audience
join in to end the show by singing Frank Sinatra's song “Fairy Tales Can Come True it Can
Happen to You if You're Young at Heart”.
From all reports the evening was a great success. Thank you to everyone involved. We
are all truly blessed to be in this wonderful community of Golden Acres. Keep a positive attitude
and stay Young at Heart.
See you next year.
Editors Note: Hats off to Lynn Perron and her Golden Acres’ cast for another wonderful and entertaining
CanAm program in 2014!
Shuffleboard By Norm Sanford
The cake lady Barb Sanford and the can man Gary Collins took the Golden Acres Fun
Shuffleboard Tournament by storm. The second place winners where Mary Ellen Hearns and
Ron Short, the third place winners where Norm Sanford and Dorothy Smith and fourth was Rita

A great day was had by all. Mel Hearns did a great job running the tournament. I like to
thank Don Webb, Mel Hearns, and Gary Collins for a great lunch of fresh hamburgers and fresh-
cut fries.
A terrific day was had at the Sterling Tournament in Clearwater. 120 participants and our
cheerleader, Ann Stewart, won 5 out of 5 games. We had 16 participants, 4 out of 5 game
winners: Maureen, Gary, Norm, Mel, Jack, and Skip. Dave won 3 out of 5.
Please have a look at our sun shade. Thanks for a fantastic job of sewing by Rita
Syroteuk and installation by Mel Hearns and Dave Merriam.
Under the Lights
When the temperature is right we had 28 people
who had great fun and closed the clubhouse at 10:30.
Unfortunately the weather was not always on our side.
Thank you for the calls, unfortunately I ran out of
masks and scuba gear.
The Team is fighting hard to stay in second place.

Please keep the strong prayers for Harry and Katherine Minck (Lot 21). Their son Greg
will be getting his MRI of his brain the end of the month to check if any cancerous tumors are
growing. He has been blessed since everyone began praying for him and we pray it will be no
signs of cancer again this time. Also pray for the family who goes through lots of anxiety every
time.
Please pray for Marlene Petruney’s (Lot 137) granddaughter Christa who is fighting
breast cancer and fighting very hard, so keep up the strong prayers and keep fighting Christa.
Please pray for John Tasseinari (Lot 138). He fell from a ladder several weeks ago and
banged his head. He was taken by ambulance and the Doctors have not been able to stop the
bleeding. He is not expected to live.
Please pray for Timmie Strader (Lot 129), his daughter and grandchildren are grieving
the loss of their father who passed on February 9th of cancer that spread throughout his body.
They live in Illinois.
Please pray for Bob McCluskey’s (Lot 220) daughter, Anne Marie, who is fighting to get
stronger so she can get out of the hospital to go to her daughter’s wedding. All your strong
prayers worked to get Anne Marie to her other daughter’s wedding a few months ago. Anne
Marie, you can do it with the prayers being said daily for you. We’re counting on you, Anne
Marie. You can do it with God’s help. Talk to him like you would a good friend and he will give
you the strength you need to make your loving gift to your daughter by being beside her on her
first day of her new life as a wife.
Your strong prayers worked for Harry McKay (Lot 198). Tests show that the growth has
shrunk and that the chemo is still working. Keep praying for his blood count to go up.
Your prayers have worked for our friend Deacon Nick who thanks everyone and asks for
continued prayers. His doctor did a test on him that was going to give the worst pain anyone
could bear. He never felt any pain and the doctor told him to ask for more prayers as he is
fighting liver cancer.
Please keep praying for Gene and Jean Binette (Lot 132). Their granddaughter Leah feels
your strong prayers and is so grateful.
Janet Levine (Lot 193) is home from Manor Care and is feeling so much better. She
thanks everyone for their prayers, cards and get well wishes.
Condolences
Jean Yetkes who lived in Golden Acres and was very active in shuffleboard passed away
peacefully in her sleep at the age of 93. A memorial service will be held at the clubhouse on
Sunday, March 16th.
