President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux #9
It has been a very busy month with the Hardin property sale and the sale on
#20 and the pool liner needing bids. We also had a roof leak in the clubhouse and bid
to change the laundry equipment.
The sale on the Hardin property happened on June 1st. We own everything that
is left in the house and the house is being incorporated into the survey of the park, so
we don’t have to pay property taxes on it next year. All owners are encouraged to tour
the house and property and make suggestions on what we will do with it. Nothing will
be done until next year sometime.
We have a buyer on unit #20 and a contract is written up and will be signed.
They will renovate the unit and use it for a winter home.
The roof vent over the kitchen stove leaked and need to be sealed. The ceiling
in the kitchen needed repair from water damage. The ceiling was scraped, plastered and painted again.
The laundry equipment is eleven years old and when we installed it in 2009 the life expectancy was
eight years. We have a couple of machines leaking underneath and repairing them would cost as much as the
price of a new machine. We made great money off of these machines.
The board is looking for three people to give input on changes to the park web site. If you are
interested please submit your name to the board for consideration. The web site for Golden Acres is not
required by Florida Law to post money spent over $500.00 or board meetings. We already post those on
the web site and the financials. We are going to be proactive ahead of the Florida laws and start posting
the minutes as well.
The pool is being scheduled to be resurfaced in the near future. The last resurfaced has lifted and a
temporary repair done this winter. The cost was $17,495.00. The last time it was done we only had a three-year
warranty on the resurfacing.
The palms trees have grown so much and need to be trimmed and also have seeds dropping on the
ground. One palm on first street was hit by lighting and needs to be removed.
Greetings from the Office By Karin Desmone #1
Please welcome Peter & Bethany Chorba #20 and James & Lesa Coplen #27 to the park.
Congratulations and may you find lots of happiness, fun, and laughter in your new home.

From the Editor’s Desk By Sue Bailey #188 [email protected]
Greetings,
All activities for the month of June were also canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our pool is now
open, and the clubhouse will be open Monday through Friday, still maintaining our distance of six feet apart.
However, the clubhouse will be closed on the weekends due to no one here to maintain the cleaning of the
bathrooms.

was officially made the National Anthem. To our Canadian Counterparts enjoy your day!
July 4th is Independence Day (a.k.a. Fourth of July). BBQ, picnics, parades, and fireworks galore. Enjoy
your day in the USA!
Until next time,
May God bless and keep you well and safe…
Thank you to all By Lois & Joe Stanfa #96
Joe and I would like to thank all of our Golden Acre friends for your prayers, messages, cards and phone calls at
the passing of our daughter Diane. You were a great comfort to us. We hope to be with you next season and
thank you in person. All our best. Lois and Joe Stanfa.
Pool Closure July 6th for 5 weeks From the Board of Directors
The resurfacing of our pool must be done starting July 6th and will be closed for 5 weeks. According to
Pool Works, they can resurface at this time due to a cancellation. Otherwise, they are booked for the entire year
of 2020. They say that it will take 5 weeks if we want it done right.
Our pool surface is lifting and was temporarily repaired this winter, but it must be resurfaced now for
our safety. Our apologies to the residents who will be unable to use the pool during the hottest time of the year.

A Warm Hello from New Brunswick, Canada By Staicy & Bruce Gunter #46
It's hard to believe that we have been home for almost three months already. The weeks turn quickly into
weekends and the months slip by.
Our Province is gradually reopening and as part of the many tough decisions that need to be made on a
weekly basis, we are thankful that our Government has decided to keep our schools closed until Fall. Our three
children and their spouses have been fortunate enough to work from home through all this but like many others,
have added Teacher, Day Care Operator, Sports Director and full time Chef to their list of responsibilities. With
the Social Distancing restrictions, we've been unable for the most part to lend a hand. Those weeks of not being
able to even see or hug the little ones were tough.
As most folks have postponed their building projects, it's allowed Bruce to work diligently on my “to
do" list. He does have a new home to build here on Grand Lake later this summer so I need to take advantage of
this situation while I can. One wet weekend resulted in this joint project. So cute!
Our thoughts are with you as we deal, each in our own way, with these fluid times. I have my fingers
crossed that through the vigilance of one and all, the Fall will see us returning to beautiful Dunedin.
Oh yes, a huge congratulations to Golden Acres on the winning of the “Best of Dunedin" award in the
category of Mobile Homes. An important reflection of the pride demonstrated by all residents and staff.
See you soon, we hope!

Hardin Property Survey By Sue Bailey #188 Phone # 727-242-7352
Email: [email protected]
As Ray indicated in the President’s Report, all owners are encouraged to tour the house and property and
make suggestions on what we will do with it. Nothing will be done until next year sometime to give everyone
an opportunity to submit their suggestions. Our goal is to give all 224 units a say on what we should do with the
property.
In the meantime, anyone who is here is welcome to tour the house and property. Please call Karin in the
office to schedule a time. She will let you know the best date and time to do so since the house will remain
locked otherwise. You will then be given a suggestion survey sheet to be filled out with your specific
suggestions. Please only one survey per unit. Once completed, please return the sheet to the office for tallying.
The suggestion survey sheet contains the following:
Golden Acres’ Resident Owned Association Suggestion Request
As residents of Golden Acres, we now legally own the Hardin Property. We solely own the right of way
from the East end of B Court to our Main Entrance/Exit on Main Street, which was our primary purpose for
acquiring the property. Each of us owns 1/224 of this property and each of us has a say in what we will do with
it going forward. The Board of Directors will be compiling your suggestions within this survey and determine
the number of suggestions to present for a vote. No resident’s suggestion will be dismissed, and all will be
tallied with a count on the ballot.
Please keep in mind that many suggestions will have an additional cost associated with it which will also
be considered in the results. Based on the final vote, we may or may not need to request additional funds on a
one-time basis to help support our results. For example, if you choose to demolish the house, there is a cost of
demolition associated with this decision.
We invite each of you to go to see the property and assess what your suggestion will include. The more
detail you provide the better we can determine the best solution for us going forward. We look forward to your
responses. Please only one suggestion per Lot#.

Protect Yourself from Medicare Fraud By Sue Bailey #188 as an AARP Fraud Watch Fighter Free Helpline at (877) 908-3360 or https://www.aarp.org/benefits-discounts/all/aarp-fraud-helpline/
A crook will tell you that you can get a free DNA swab test for cancer, or medical devices or services.
Pitch: To get the free health care, you just need to provide your Medicare number.
Method: This offer usually comes via phone or email. Vans drive through neighborhoods, with
people knocking on doors offering tests in return for Medicare numbers.
Prevention: Never give your Medicare number to anyone but a trusted medical professional.

Life in GA instead of Massachusetts By Paula & Joe Bunevith #202
By the time you read this we will be back in MA.
Hi folks well here we are still in Florida at our winter home in Golden Acres. When we should have
been back in Massachusetts. Our flight was canceled for May 16th and the Corona Virus did that. So here we
stay. Well it’s been interesting. The virus numbers were high in MA, so we didn’t mind staying here. We self
isolated, going to the grocery store every 10-14 days as needed. We did 12 puzzles, played board games,
watched movies and just stayed put. The Weather has been crazy, HOT and HUMID, and we mean dripping
HUMID. Temperature would be 88 and heat index would be 100!
Joe has been golfing with Ray & Ginny Lamoureux, Bob Eckland, Ken Hultgren, but 3 of them have left
so it’s just Joe and Ken for the next week. I have been doing aqua fit with Debra Farris, Carol Diniz, Maureen
Shannon and Elaine Janes. Maureen left this weekend so it’s down to the three of us.
We went to Honeymoon Island one day last week, got there at 9 am, walked the beach, swam in the
ocean and left at 11 as the temperature climbed.
The clubhouse opened Mon - Fri only with daily plus bathroom cleaning. Closed on Weekends, no cleaning.
Joe and I, Ken and Ellie went up and played darts, something different to do.
Most restaurants are open to 50% capacity, but we do take out and it’s great.
Our camp is open with restrictions, have to self-quarantine for 14 days, and have to be self containing, which
we are. And wear a mask if you are outside your premises. We head back to MA on June 25th.
Have a great summer and stay safe. And Hopefully we will see all of you in the fall.
Norma’s Garden From Norma & George Moore #54
You have already seen this garden in last month’s newsletter. I sent Sue a picture of a bed of daffodils
under the snow in May!!! Unbeknownst to me she put the picture in the newsletter! So now all of you know
what spring in Canada can be like!
That snow fell about the 10th of May, so I thought I’d show you how quickly, (just a few short weeks),
the garden can be changed into something quite different. Here you can see in the middle of the very right side
of the photo where the daffodils were. Only their green foliage is left now. But the rest of the garden has been
transformed.
Page 8
8
I have to admit to being totally addicted, obsessed even, with gardening. Anyone who has ever suffered from
any addiction, whether it be shopping at Dillard’s or golfing or playing bridge or tennis, you know how hard it
is to stop. And that is my problem. I don’t know how to say enough is enough! What is a woman in her 70’s
doing looking after two and a half acres of lawns and gardens? Totally nuts!
Here is our back yard. We love bird watching so have two bird baths for them to drink from and splash
in. The birds just love the garden! With so many insects, worms, grubs, seeds and flowers for them to eat or
drink the nectar, they find it ideal to build their nests here. Despite this feast in the garden, we have one male
cardinal who is determined to get into our house! He bangs away at windows on one side only to go around to
the other side and try there. In between attempts, he flies off into a tree and sings his little heart out. Talk about
determined. He will do this from dawn until dark!
Page 9

And the last picture fits in perfectly in a garden setting. George’s beehives. Beekeeping is just another
of George’s hobbies, and a sweet one at that! The bees sure are happy here with the choice of blossom before
them! One of the challenges of gardening, and what makes it so rewarding, is to plan it so that there are new
flowers coming on all the time. For example, after the daffodils and primroses were finished, the lilacs started,
(some varieties still haven’t bloomed). Next it is time for the iris and the peonies, the roses and the Lady’s
mantle, Dame’s rocket and poppies. Then it goes on with daylilies, purple coneflowers, and fleece flower. You
get the idea. And not just the garden flowers of course, but the blossoms on trees and shrubs. The other day
George showed me a large tree covered in tiny white blossoms. The tree was actually humming with the sound
of the bees all over it.
Our bees make just about the best tasting honey on this planet! Come over and taste it at #54 next
winter. Until then, stay safe!

Try Again By Debra Farris #28
In this pandemic, I found myself turning to my Creative side. I love music! It’s always been my friend.
I’ve been writing songs and music since I was a child, thanks to my parents. After wanting to become a “Rock
star” in my early years, as I aged, I decided to move toward songwriting and composing commercial music for
radio TV and film instead. To date, I have several publishing deals, and several songs on TV shows, films and
documentary films. It’s been a wonderful journey. In this time of isolation, I wanted to offer up something
inspiring. I wrote this song in 2017, and it’s been part of the fabric of my life ever since. It’s a life lesson. We
grow and learn. We succeed, we fail, we pick ourselves back up again. We always have another chance to do it
over. Please enjoy this song lyric. If you’d like to hear the song and music, feel free to contact me directly.
[email protected] Thanks!
Try Again
VERSE 1:
Give yourself another chance, if you don’t succeed.
This is what it’s all about; it’s like pulling weeds.
On our stairway to Heaven, we must watch our deeds.
Go ahead and plant your seeds. Go ahead and plant your seeds.
Chorus:
If you find you’re not in line, turn around
If you’re thinkin’ that you’re lost, you might be found.
Go ahead start over; begin
If at first you don’t succeed, try again
VERSE 2:
Go plant a garden. cultivate your soul
You still reap the harvest, but it’s a hard row to hoe,
Keep your eye on the weather, so you can reach your goal
Your work won’t be forgotten; you are complete and whole
Yes, you’re complete and whole
Chorus:
BRIDGE:
When the wind comes, and the rain it falls down.
Don’t be discouraged, There’s love all around
It will make you stronger, for good or for bad.
When you look back you’ll be grateful you had- (a chance to)
CHORUS:
Find if you’re not in line turn, turn around
If you’re thinkin’ that you’re lost, you might be found.
Go ahead start over; begin
If at first you don’t succeed, try again
Try Again, Try again

New Blood Test May Predict Alzheimer’s Disease From NIH (News in Health) newsinhealth.nih.gov
A new blood testing technique could help researchers detect Alzheimer’s disease before symptoms start
or in its early stages. Alzheimer’s disease is an age-related brain disorder that develops over many years. Toxic
changes in the brain slowly destroy memory and thinking skills.
The disease involves two proteins called beta-amyloid and tau. Beta amyloid clumps into plaques, which
slowly build up between brain cells. Abnormal tau collects inside brain cells and forms tangles.
Researchers investigated whether a new blood testing technique could help predict development of
Alzheimer’s disease. They tested for a modified version of tau called ptau181 in blood plasma (the liquid part of
blood). Levels of this protein have been linked with Alzheimer’s
disease.
The team collected blood samples from more than 400 people. The analysis showed that ptau181 levels
differed between healthy participants and those with Alzheimer’s disease.
The new approach could be less invasive and costly than current tests for Alzheimer’s disease. These
rely on brain scans and lab tests of spinal fluid.
“The development of a blood test would enable us to rapidly screen a much larger and more diverse
group of volunteers who wish to enroll in studies,” says Dr. Richard J. Hodes,
director of NIH’s National Institute on aging.
