Going Green at Work

Simple things that can be done in your office or factory to be more green

By LA-CO Industries, Inc.

Page 2: Going Green at Work

Manufacturing is vital to the US economy but many factories struggle with reducing waste

and avoiding the depletion of natural resources. According to Waste Management, US

companies create and dispose of 7.6 billions tons of non-industrial waste. That number

does not include water or electricity waste.

Taking an office or factory green can be a costly investment. At LA-CO Industries, we

understand the importance of going green and have implemented a few small changes into

our company as a first step in the "Going Green" adventure!

The easiest place for LA-CO Industries to start

going green was the restrooms. Automatic

faucets and dual flush toilets were installed to

help reduce water consumption. The automatic

paper towel dispensers have also helped us to

cut down on paper waste.

Did you know that it can take over 200 years for

aluminum to decompose naturally? By recycling

the aluminum cans from soda, soup, and other

items in our lunch rooms, we can reduce the

amount of waste sitting in the landfills. Aluminum

that is recycled typically only takes about 6 weeks

to be reused!

These little stickers can pack a powerful punch.

"Remember these come from trees" stickers

were placed on all of the paper towel and napkin

dispensers around our building. We saw an

immediate decrease in waste after they were

applied.

You can order your own stickers

at http://thesecomefromtrees.blogspot.com/ and

help save hundreds of pounds of paper a year!!

Battery Recycling

Typically batteries are just thrown in garbage with

other wastes. In most cases, this is fine. However,

batteries do contain dangerous substances that can

be harmful to people and the environment.

LA-CO Industries has these battery recycling

containers in several places throughout the office

and factory to allow workers to properly dispose of

all batteries. The containers are emptied monthly

and sent to a battery recycling company for sorting

and proper disposal.

Pallet Use and

Recycling

Pallets are common in every warehouse. LA-CO

Industries uses them for as long as possible.

Once they start to break apart or show signs of

wear, they are gathered and sent to a recycler for

proper disposal.

Drum Return & Use

All 55 gallon drums that we receive are stored and

returned to the vendor for reuse. If the vendor

does not want them back or can't reuse them, they

sent to a recycler for proper disposal.

Corraguted Cardboard Collection

All corrugated material is gathered in bins

throughout the building. Once a week the bins

are empty and the materials are baled and sent

to a recycler for disposal.
