GOES-R Fog/Low Stratus (FLS) Products AWIPS/AWIPS2 Examples and Product Information GOES-EAST MVFR Probability AWIPS AWIPS2 This is the probability that the cloud ceiling is below 3000 ft and/or the surface visibility is less than 5 mi GOES-EAST IFR Probability AWIPS AWIPS2 This is the probability that the cloud ceiling is below 1000 ft and/or the surface visibility is less than 3 mi GOES-EAST LIFR Probability AWIPS AWIPS2 This is the probability that the cloud ceiling is below 500 ft and/or the surface visibility is less than 1 mi GOES-EAST Cloud Thickness AWIPS AWIPS2 This is the estimated cloud thickness for the highest liquid cloud layer GOES-EAST Cloud Phase AWIPS AWIPS2 The cloud phase is not a FLS product, however, it is useful to know where ice/water clouds are present when viewing the other products FLS Product Information Geographic Availability GOES-EAST over CONUS GOES-WEST over CONUS GOES-WEST over Alaska Approximate Product File Sizes Each FLS product for GOES-EAST CONUS is ~500 KB/1.6 MB (compressed/uncompressed) Each FLS product for GOES-WEST CONUS is ~500 KB/1.4 MB (compressed/uncompressed) Each FLS product for GOES-WEST Alaska is ~700 KB/3.6 MB (compressed/uncompressed) Temporal Availability Data available approximately every 15 minutes for each domain Current Naming Convention Products are available currently over LDM with the following naming convention SSEC_AWIPS_GEOCAT-GEOE_CONUS_4KM_${product_name)_YYYYMMDD_HHMM.5577#### SSEC_AWIPS_GEOCAT-GEOW_CONUS_4KM_${product_name)_YYYYMMDD_HHMM.5577#### SSEC_AWIPS_GEOCAT-GEOW_ALAS_2KM_${product_name)_YYYYMMDD_HHMM.5577#### Related Products The GOES-R Cloud Phase product is useful to help users determine the following: 1.Where satellite parameters are not being used (multi-layered or ice clouds) in the calculation of FLS probabilities (i.e., only model data is used) 2.Why the cloud thickness is not calculated for certain clouds (multi-layered and ice clouds) AWIPS2-Related Information All code to ingest and display FLS products is in the baseline as of OB13.5 Scales and resolutions GOES-EAST CONUS 4 KM GOES-WEST CONUS 4 KM GOES-WEST Alaska 2 KM Menus need to be added to baseline satellite menu upon products going operational No AWIPS2 development costs required for current format
