Go Green Alliance
Project Report
Aline Adams, AE Alex Kotz, Jr AE Lia Conrad, Jr AE Jessica Cantrell Barbara Pritchett Caitlin Ramsey
The goals we set forth this at the beginning of this semester with the client were to
increase campus awareness, brand the organization as a resource and umbrella
organization for other environmentally conscious groups on campus, while also attracting
new (younger) members to potentially take over execution positions and continue the
legacy of the Go Green Alliance. Our plan to accomplish these objectives included a social
media campaign that included Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, updating the website, and adding a
blog feature or forum for member groups to post on. In order to increase attendance at
biweekly meetings we invited more students to the Facebook fan page and advertised GGA
events happening on campus.
We began the semester brainstorming ways to attract new members and publicity
options. One event the Go Green Alliance executive board was enthusiastic about was the
Southeast Student Renewable Energy Conference that UGA was co-hosting. We wrote a press
release for the event and sent it to the Red &
Black, Flagpole, and Athens-Banner Herald.
Another event we publicized for Go
Green Alliance was Sustainability Day, October
20, 2010 on the Tate 2 lawn hosted by the
Office of Sustainability. Advertising and
publicity measures taken included street
painting a mural with event information onto
Sanford Drive by the bus stop and passing out Sustainability Day stickers. We also wrote a
press release that was sent to the Red & Black, and Flagpole’s online calendar. Through
both of these events, we hoped to engage current members while also attracting new, non-‐
traditional members.
Sustainability Day was a huge success for the Office of Sustainability, as well as the
Go Green Alliance, I personally connected with a dozen potential new members and got
them to sign up for the listserve. At the beginning of the semester there were
approximately 400 subscribers to the GGA listserve, and today (3 months later) there are
521 subscribers. At the beginning of the campaign UGA Go Green Alliance Facebook page
had approximately 200 fans; today we are proud to say there are 420 fans.
This semester has been a success for us with Go Green Alliance, however, we know
to successfully maintain these goals, and to continually increase awareness of GGA, and we
will have to work just as hard next semester. We will continue to update our social media
outlets, while at the same time starting a new blog for GGA, which will be another outlet to
keep members up-‐to-‐date on current information about the organization, as well as posting
fun tips on staying green in your daily life.
For future events, our team is in the brainstorming process with Go Green Alliance
members to host campus-‐wide events for a plastic water bottle campaign in January and
Earth Week in April 2011. Goals of the plastic water bottle campaign include eliminating
water bottles from vending machines on campus and at SGA events by offering “green”
solutions such as retrofitted water fountains to make filling up reusable water bottles
easier. We are looking forward to continuing our green mission with GGA next semester.

GO GREEN ALLIANCE GEARS UP FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY CONFERENCE
ATHENS, GA—Hundreds of students from across the Southeast will be in Athens the
first weekend of October when the UGA Go Green Alliance co-hosts this year’s Southeast
Student Renewable Energy Conference along with the Southern Energy Network.
Students will be able to attend a variety of networking events with students and
professionals and learn about the challenges of achieving sustainability. They will learn about
current environmental issues specific to the South and connect with others who are fighting for a
future where clean energy and sustainability are a priority.
This Southern Energy Network formed as a result of the first SSREC and has helped
universities across the Southeast learn to create more sustainable living communities.
The UGA Go Green Alliance is a coalition of 26 student organizations that all work “to
promote sustainability in an effective and cohesive manner, incorporating all aspects of the
campus from academics to service operations.” The Go Green Alliance serves as a liaison
between students and student organization and helps educate them on ways to be more
sustainable.
There is still time to register for this year’s conference. Registration will be open until
October 1 and volunteers for the actual event are still needed. For more information, visit
http://climateaction.net/ssrec. To learn more about the Go Green Alliance, visit their website at
