Traditionally, students were selected for the PGY-1 year of training (internship) only and then reapplied for continuation in PGY2

Many students will now be offered ‘continuous contracts’ for the entire length of residency training. Varies by service

Students who accept the ‘continuous contract’ will not need to reapply for PGY-2 training.

MUST successfully complete Step 1, 2CK and 2CS by 15 February 2017

If NOT, you will be given a 1 year contract only – even if initially selected for continuous training.

Your MSPE will have the overall statement of preclerkship performance and comments and grade from each clerkship

There will be no statement about ranking or quartile of the class in which a student sits

This will be stated explicitly in Appendix E

Q: How do I arrange a rotation not in the catalog?

A: Fill out USUHS Form 114 with signature of USU sponsor department

Complete online request to obtain an MOU (you should allow several months for this process)

Fill out any paperwork required by the institution you are visiting (VSAS)

Q: VSAS – What is that?

A: Visiting Student Application Service◦ Request token from Mrs. McAuliffe in OSA◦ Fee is required and can not be paid by USU

Q: I changed my mind about specialty, and now all the interview rounds are full…what do I do?

A: Contact your advisor (Dr. Moores or me). We cannot override number of slots we can advise you about points of contact in

the programs and other creative ways of getting yourself known by the specialty

Q: Can I take leave during an advanced clinical rotation

A: No, personal leave and house-hunting leave are not permitted during rotations

Emergencies are handled differently, and should be managed through your site supervisor, your Company Commander, and OSA

Email is acceptable to seek permission

Q: Can I schedule elective surgery (Lasix, Ortho, etc) during rotations

A: If elective….no If semi-elective, discuss with OSA If Urgent or Emergent – of course, but keep

OSA and CMD informed in advance Missed time may require make-up to obtain

full credit
