ABOUT GLOSTERGloster's origins as furniture makers go back more than 40 years andtoday the Gloster name is synonymous worldwide with the best designand the highest quality in outdoor furniture.

Key to our philosophy is the belief that outdoor furniture is as importanta style statement as indoor furniture, hence our range incorporates bothclassic and modern designs to cater for all tastes and requirements.From the traditional to the contemporary, there is something foreveryone in the Gloster range.

Whilst we are well known for our teak furniture, recent years have seenthe arrival in our range of the, alternative and modern, materials ofsling, stainless steel, aluminium and man-made wicker fibre.

However, whatever the raw material used, we believe that quality iseverything - we do not cut any corners or manufacture our products toany price-point. You will be able to find cheaper outdoor furniture, butyou will not find better…

MANUFACTURINGGloster furniture is selected by the most demanding customers whoinsist on the best and so we believe that we have to be the ver y best inall that we do - starting with the manufacturing.

Gloster has its own factory near Surabaya in Java, Indonesia which westarted nearly 20 years ago. Here we use both traditional and modernmethods to achieve production standards that usually well exceed thoseof most other indoor and outdoor furniture manufacturers. The factor yis located close to the teak plantations, is run by a Europeanmanagement team and employs over 800 people.

In addition to teak, Gloster is expert in the use of a variety of materialsfor the manufacture of our furniture. Extensive use is made of stainlesssteel, powder coated aluminium, man-made wicker and sling materialand there are specialist departments within the factor y entirely devotedto the working of these materials to the same high standards as ourteak components.

We also work in partnership with a few select manufacturers who havespecialist skills and techniques that we do not have in our ownmanufacturing plant. These factories have been chosen because of theirability to produce the highest quality consistent with our standards.

Every piece of Gloster furniture is manufactured to our high standardsby skilled furniture makers and each item is hand finished to guaranteeyears of service in demanding conditions.

TEAK & THE ENVIRONMENTTeak trees are not indigenous to Indonesia but climatic conditions onJava are ideal for growing teak. Teak was originally introduced to theislands by Buddhist monks, some 700 years ago. When the Dutchcolonized Indonesia in the 19th Century, they soon realized theopportunity to establish large plantations and introduced the plantationmanagement systems that are still in use today.

Teak plantations are really no different than any other crop, except thatthe growing cycle is far longer. Within the plantations, the trees arecontinuously cared for by the local population and over their lifetimethe trees are regularly pruned and the integrity of the plantationscarefully maintained. This ultimately results in a better quality of timber- healthier wood, straighter grain and with less knots. Ideal for use inoutdoor furniture.

We take great care that all our manufacturing activities follow goodenvironmental practices for the good of our people and of the localcommunities.

DESIGNERSOf course, great manufacturing is wasted without great design. Glostercurrently works with several world-renown designers to create timeless,elegant furniture.

Axel EnthovenAxel Enthoven (born in 1947) is President and founder of EnthovenAssociates Design Consultants and is assisted by his 2 partners, Jean-Pierre Geelen and Alain Denis. This international design studio hasoffices in both the Netherlands and France and agencies in Thailandand Korea.

Axel has held various teaching positions in his career and since 1989been in charge of the department 'Man and mobility' at the DesignAcademy in Eindhoven. Axel obtained his first design award back in1969 and since then, he and the company he founded have obtaineddozens more. Axel has combined in his career management of designpromotion, design in society and business and managed one of theleading design agencies in the EU.

Povl EskildsenPovl began gathering furniture design & production knowledge over twodecades ago whilst working in his fathers furniture factor y. Havingfurthered a significantly 'hands-on' early interest in furniture design withthe appropriate education. Povl studied and graduated in furnituredesign from the School of Architecture in Aarhus, Denmark in 1986.

Since this time Povl has worked extensively, purely as a freelancedesigner. Continuously developing his talent and exhaustively pursuingnew concepts within his own studio, Povl has worked with manyinternational furniture factories culminating in a successful andproductive relationship with Gloster.

Mark Gabbertas Mark Gabbertas is an award winning furniture designer based inLondon. Having previously worked in advertising, he changed careersand trained to be a cabinetmaker over 15 years ago.

Mark has a fundamental understanding of manufacturing techniquesand is enthused by the prospect of pushing the boundaries of these asfar as possible. An intrinsic part of Marks design process is the beliefthat at all times, the design of an object is governed by an appreciationof the commercial realities that surround it. He believes passionatelythat if a great design does not sell, perhaps it is not such a greatdesign. Marks flagship project with Gloster, Eclipse, only substantiatesthis concept.

Mark Gabbertas

Teak is a dense, close-grained hardwood with a high natural oil content.

Teak is exceptionally hard wearing, highly resistant to rotting and is

almost impervious to the effects of sun, rain, frost or snow. For these

reasons, teak is the first choice timber for outdoor furniture.

We control our manufacturing at every level - from hand selection of the

finest grade of teak, through kiln dr ying to processing at our own factory.

Kiln dr ying not only enables us to craft accurate, close fitting joints, but

also ensures the stability of the finished furniture in all the climatic

conditions it is likely to meet. Naturally, all teak we use is sourced from

sustainable plantations.

Woven furniture retains the classic style of traditional wicker pieces,

but with the added benefit of complete weather resistance. In addition,

because every piece is hand-woven, each item is completely unique - as

individual as the person who wove it.

We weave over fully welded, powder coated aluminium frames, making

the furniture both light and highly resistant to corrosion.

All our woven furniture is made from only the highest quality man-made

fibre. Soft to the touch, this remarkable material has many benefits

including high suppleness, tear resistance, UV resistance and weather

resistance. The polyethylene based, extruded and through-dyed wicker is

also completely weatherproof, insensitive to differences in temperature

and extremely hard wearing.

Sling furniture is the modern choice for those seeking practicality,

style and comfort.

We use the highest quality Textilene® woven vinyl in the manufacture of

our sling furniture. Textilene® is made by coating a high strength

polyester yarn with a vinyl compound and the finished material is easy to

clean and is resistant to fading, mildew and wear & tear under even the

most severe weather conditions.

The main benefit of sling however, is comfort. When stretched taught

between two side frames, sling provides a yielding and infinitely variable

seating sur face that molds to your individual body shape.

mahogany timber and are hand painted with multiplecoats of marine grade paint to give a hard wearing and

durable outdoor finish. Prior to painting the mahogany iswashed to remove some of the natural red colouringfrom the sur face. The paint used is manufactured by

Sikkens/Akzo Nobel, a world wide renowned supplier ofmarine paints and lacquers.

All Axis Sable items are designed for full outdoor use butin the knowledge they will behave outdoors as all painted

wood furniture or joinery would do.

Estate Painted FinishEstate items are manufactured using kiln dried

mahogany timber and are hand painted with multiplecoats of marine grade paint to give a hard wearing and

durable outdoor finish. Prior to painting the mahogany iswashed to remove some of the natural red colouring

from the sur face. It is then painted with filling coats andfinal coats. Between each application the furniture is

sanded to create a high gloss, glass-like finish. The paintused is manufactured by Sikkens/Akzo Nobel, a world

wide renowned supplier of marine paints and lacquers.

All Estate items are designed for full outdoor use but inthe knowledge they will behave outdoors as all painted

wood furniture or joinery would do.

Truly taking the indoors out, Cloud is the ultimateexpression of the outdoor living trend. As with allthe best ideas, simplicity is the key with just twobasic dimensions (75cm and 100cm) comprisingthe building blocks for the entire range. Thissimplicity allows a wide number of different units tointegrate together to create almost limitless designpossibilities.

If you can imagine it, chances are it can becreated with Cloud...

From the ver y outset, Cloud has been conceived, designed and engineered to be left outside all yearround and in all weathers without any need to cover or protect. To enable this, four design elements

combine to ensure maximum weather protection…

FRAME CONSTRUCTION : Frames are made from fully welded, electro-polished and brushed 304 gradestainless steel. PVC sling seat panels are fixed to the stainless steel frame using powder coated aluminumrails and provide additional comfort while allowing water to drain through. Adjacent frames are fastened

together with stainless steel plates and leveled using the integral adjustable nylon feet.

FABRICS : The fabrics used for seat and back cushion covers is Leisuretex® - similar to a traditional PVCsling, but with the addition of 100% polypropylene yarns within the weave to offer increased comfort.Additional backing adds to the virtually waterproof nature of this material while scatter cushions are

offered in a choice of nine fabrics woven from Ten Stars Yarn®. This new range of 100%polypropylene textiles combines distinctive Italian style with groundbreaking technical

characteristics, including excellent light-fastness, anti-mildew and easily washable.

REMOVABLE COVERS : Cushion covers can be easily removed via their velcroattachments to enable cleaning. There is no need to dis-assemble the furniture

to enable removal of the covers.

CUSHION CONSTRUCTION : Cushions are designed to be virtuallywaterproof, so no water can enter into the cushion filling itself. In the unlikely

case that any water does enter, the design of the cushions -including meshbases and well concealed Velcro seals - allows for it to drain away quickly.

The interior of each back cushion is constructed from a molded polypropylenecore with polyethylene foam rim secured to a tubular stainless steel frame.

Attached to this rigid core is a dacron fibre fill enclosed inside a waterproofliner. Seat cushions are constructed using a reticulated foam core with a

dacron wrap. All seams on cushions are sealed with waterproof sealing tapeto ensure no water can enter the cushions.

Cushions & FabricsGloster cushions have been specially designed to give an added touch of opulence and comfort to our dining chairs, loungers and deep-seating items.Cushions are tailored to fit each item of furniture perfectly and are available in a wide range of colours. All fabrics used are 100% solution dyedacrylic. As a result these fabrics not only feel soft and comfortable, but also retain their colour and strength while withstanding mildew, chlorine,atmospheric chemicals and years of exposure to sunlight. To achieve maximum enjoyment from your cushions you should of course care for themcorrectly. Gloster cushions are not waterproof, so avoid exposure to extended rainfall. If cushions do become wet, separate the cushion filling from thecover and allow both to dry thoroughly. When not in use, take care to store cushions in a dry environment. Do not store cushions when wet.

SlingsWe use only the highest quality Textilene® woven vinyl in the manufacture of our sling furniture. Textilene® is made by coating a high strength polyesteryarn with a vinyl compound and the finished material is easy to clean and is resistant to fading, mildew and wear & tear under even the most severeweather conditions. Sling requires only occasional cleaning to keep it looking as good as new. We recommend using our Sling & Woven Cleaner,following the instructions detailed on the label. A pressure hose on a low setting is also acceptable to use on sling furniture, but avoid any teak partsas the high pressure can erode the surface of the timber.

It goes without saying that outdoor furniture has toendure far harsher conditions than indoor furniture.From sub-zero temperatures in Winter to swelteringheat and high humidity in Summer, outdoorfurniture needs to be able to endure everythingmother nature throws at it.

At Gloster, we use only the finest materials in themanufacture of our products and you can ensureyour furniture enjoys a long and trouble-free lifewith just a little basic maintenance every year.

Our woven, metal and sling products require onlythe most simple of cleaning regimes to keep themlooking as good as new. Metal furniture can attractdirt and stains and therefore needs periodiccleaning with Gloster’s ‘Metal Cleaner’ or ‘StainlessSteel Cleaner & Polisher’.

Likewise, both our sling and man-made wickerwoven furniture needs only an occasional cleanwith our special non-foaming ‘Sling & WovenCleaner’.

Contrar y to popular belief, teak furniture does notrequire any special maintenance routine or anyadditional protection apart from occasionalcleaning. If left to age naturally outside by beingexposed to light, air and rain, then the sur face ofthe teak will gradually change to a soft, silver-greyas the pigments in the sur face layer of the woodslowly start to fade away.

We recommend that you allow your teak furnitureto weather naturally this way and simply cleanthoroughly once or twice a year with our 'TeakCleaner'.

To protect teak sur faces from staining and to helpmaintain the silver-grey patina on weathered teak,we recommend using our ‘Teak Stain Protector’which repels moisture and minimizes the likelihoodof stains caused by food and drinks.

If you want to retain the golden-brown colour ofnew teak we also offer a 'Teak Sealer'. Applicationof 'Teak Sealer' will not affect the strength orlongevity of the furniture in any way, just itsappearance. If you elect to use 'Teak Sealer' youwill be embarking on a regular maintenanceprogram as 'Teak Sealer' needs to be regularly re-applied to provide continuous protection.

All of Gloster’s product care items are water-based,making them both non-toxic and environmentallyfriendly.
