The British colony made up of Singapore, Penang and Melaka A head tax. A Thai term. See bandar. Unit of weight (1 tahil = 39 gm) One of the highest ranking chiefs in a Malay sultanate. More specifically, the title of the ruler of Johor for much of the nineteenth century. A Chinese businessman.
