Current established solutions aim to avoid energy loss by extensive insulation and sealing of buildings (e.g. ‚Minergie‘). Further development of these methods will reach their technical limits over time.
An alternative approach is the use of natural energy sources which are collected and stored for winter periods. Focus is on reduction of CO2 emission to zero (Low EX, Zero Emission). During winter periods the stored warmth is extracted by heat pumps in order to heat the building.
