More than the fact that global influence is one of our national ministry’s watchword, our God-given destiny is found in Gen 12:2: “We are ‘blessed to be a blessing...’”. God’s economy is one of giving and receiving. We who have freely received are now to freely give to others. CreaComm is where we are now because someone had 'invested' in us.

From our early years (some 17 years ago as a music ministry), our posture has always been to impact the world. From mission trips to Romania, to ministry & training opportunities in Papua New Guinea, that same heartbeat has persisted as God opened up more doors for us to minister in many places around the world.

Through the years, God has and continues to uniquely position us to bless individuals and ministries in Singapore and beyond. It has been a privilege to be used by Him to inspire, resource, train and mentor, helping others to make impact wherever God has placed them.

Pray for us. We want to continue to be good stewards of the resources and opportunities He is leading us to.

GLAMMM 2010In line with being a blessing, we took a big step of faith to host a gathering of Creatives this year. It is a significant chapter for us in our ministry.

In 18th-22nd October 2010, God led us to organize aLeaders Summit called 'GLAMMM 2010' - Global Leaders in Arts, Music and Media Ministries. We hosted 29 delegates from 16 countries, providing a platform for Creatives to connect, share and explore collaborations, as well as consider how the arts and media are helping to catalyze movements everywhere.

One delegate expressed to me that this conference was not only significant but 'revolutionary' for him. It gave him not just the encouragement (through the connections with co-labourers in various creative ministries) but also introduced tangible and concrete ideas to know how to lead his ministry. (Read about this delegate in the GLAMMM feature!)

MakingtheGospelClick...p.2

As I reflect on GLAMMM 2010, I am filled with thanksgiving for the privilege to have played a part in making this happen. I am reminded of the saying that "you can count the number of seeds in an apple, but you can never count the number of apples in a seed”. We may never see the full impact of our work in the Lord, (though sometimes God blesses us with a little glimpse here and there) but we can trust our faithful God to multiply the impact, so that God is glorified in the nations. Glory be to our God!

As you read this issue, join us in giving praise and glory to God for all that He's done and will do. We are thrilled and humbled that He would use us in His plan to be a blessing to the nations.

Carl Rognstad’s sharing about the dancer at the Sasquatch! Music Festival* left the deepest impression on me in the conference.

Loneliness is something I face in ministry every day as a lone Christian and Campus Crusade staff reaching out to practicing artists and those in training. I am only able to reveal my Christian identity to my non-Christian friends in part, withholding the fact that I am a Campus Crusade staff who is in the Thought and Culture-Shapers (TCS) ministry, with the intention of building relationships with them to bring them into God’s kingdom. I always feel like I am a well-meaning spy amongst them.

However, through them, I have come to see how merciful God is to those who are unsaved, and how much I am in need of His presence to fight against the darkness of the ritualistic and traditional Chinese culture. It is a challenge to bring them from where they are (in the world) into God’s kingdom, but I press on to follow Jesus and learn from Him to step into their lives.

I also appreciated two devotions that were shared during the conference by Rev Beat Rink (from Europe) and Simon Seow. Rev Beat taught me that transforming a community meant being with them, not staying away from them. And though I still have my fears and come face-to-face with loneliness, I learnt from Simon that the secret to the fulfillment of this impossible mission is “I can’t”, not “I can”, so that I realize my need for God and depend on Him. Just like the dancer in the Sasquatch! Music Festival, I will stay faithful to the passion and mission God has called me to, till His time of fulfillment!

*Sasquatch! Music Festival is a music festival held annually at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington. In 2009 there was a guy who started an unplanned dance party when he got up to dance solo to the music.

Coming to GLAMMM helped further my vision and connected me with great partners in the cause of Christ. I am thankful for the partnership with like-minded people who will help move evangelism ahead in my country of Canada through some of the resources and materials they shared with me at this conference. I learned a lot about managing creative people and empowering creativity in ministry. Thank you for inviting me and hosting me at the Conference!

Thailand, a land Singaporeans are familiar with because of its budget shopping options and appetizing cuisine. Incidentally, CreaComm also has close ties with our Thai colleagues, and in fact, possess a close ‘sibling relationship’ due to how our paths in ministry have crossed.

Ake works on campus and his vision is to see worship movements everywhere. He is passionate about discipling Christian and non-Christian music students, as well as imparting what he has learnt and experienced in campus music ministry to neighbouring ministries in Southeast Asia, for e.g. Laos. Ake desires to see those ministries being enriched and equipped like he was.

Blessed to be a blessing...

Thai Music Ministry: Faithful God

Nutti Boongrom (affectionately known as P’Nutti*) was the Program Coordinator of Vision 2000 held in Bangkok in 1997, where Forerunner (FR) was invited to lead worship. The brief exposure to FR caused a stirring in the hearts of P’Nutti and her four disciples who attended the conference to desire to minister using music. They recognized that God had blessed them with musical talents and wondered if they could set-up a music ministry in Thailand CCC as well.

What God had borne in their hearts required them to exercise faith and patience to see to its fulfillment. It was only some years later that their ministry director gave the green light for FR to be invited back to explore and dialogue about what is needed for them to set-up a music ministry. Even then, nothing concrete was laid on the table for the ministry that P’Nutti and her disciples dreamed of.

Yet God is faithful to those He calls and in whose hearts He has imparted vision for His Kingdom’s purpose. While P’Nutti waited upon the Lord to step into music ministry, God increased her passion and desire for worship, and confirmed her desire and call when she was in the US attending bible college. Little did she know that while God was preparing her heart, He was also preparing a team for her back in Thailand. One of them was Ake, a first-year intern.

Upon returning from biblical studies in 2004, P’Nutti approached the Thai CCC leadership again to express her desire to start a music ministry. This time, she was given the go-ahead along with six other staff to come to Singapore for a two-month training in music and communications before returning to Thailand for a month-long campus tour as field application. As you might have guessed, FR was the one who helped train, as well as assist them to craft their ministry’s mission, vision, values and goals.

While it seemed that P’Nutti and her team’s dream of serving in full-time music ministry was finally fulfilled, their journey was not without frustration and discouragement. Yet In the midst of various kinds of uncertainty, doubt, having to deal with people’s mindsets and questions from leaders above, FR staff continued to provide a voice of encouragement and support to P’Nutti, Ake, and their team members. The connection between the Thai and FR staff is telling; P’Nutti also speaks of FR very fondly and with much appreciation.

Currently, P’Nutti is engaged in ministry with music students in university and music professionals.

*P’Nutti is short for Pii Nutti, where “pii” is a form of address in Thai, specifically for someone who is older than the speaker.

In October 2008, Karl Udy was invited to take part in the East Asia Media Training conducted by Wide Angle Productions (WAP, short film arm of CreaComm). That was his first encounter with CreaComm. At the Training, Karl displayed great interest in film-making and strong intention to impart the strategy of using film for evangelism to the ministry in Hong Kong (HK) where he serves.

Hong Kong CCC: A Vision for Asian Stories

It seemed that after the East Asia Media Training you were keen to collaborate with WAP?

Yes, we (the HK staff who went to the Training) kept in contact with WAP since then and talked about possible ways to co-operate.

At the end of last year we started to dialogue about a potential first overseas Parable Project* held in HK for both Singapore and HK students. After various hiccups, it materialized in July this year by God’s grace. As a result, we shot two Cantonese short films which can be used to start spiritual conversations. We were also able to build into the lives of the students who signed up for the Project. In particular, four of the six HK students who joined us are currently majoring in media or production-related courses in their university, and will continue to be active in those fields at least through their years of study. We are hoping that the experience they have had in the Project have helped them realize the value of their skills and the range of opportunities open to them to use media for ministry.

*The Parable Project is a short film missions project that first originated in Singapore, organized by WAP. Students spend at least a week learning the ropes of film-making and make their own film after that. The film is screened at the end of the project at a self-organized pre-evangelistic short film festival where they invite their pre-believing friends andfamily members.

As the staff in charge of HKCCC’s evangelism development team, what would you say is the vision God has given you for creative ministry in HK?

My vision is for what we have seen happen in Singapore and HK so far to expand into major cities in the whole East Asia region. I would love to see a Parable Project take place in a different East Asian city every year, telling stories unique to that city, attended by students from all over the region. I would love to see students in our movements starting conversations with their friends on Facebook using those short films, saying, "Just saw this short film, what do you think of it?" or sharing them with a friend on the bus or train using their iPhone. I desire to see us on the cutting edge of new media, instead of playing catch-up with what the world is doing.

"Parenthood is a spiritual journey involving daily lessons of patient, selfless service, untiring love and lavish giving. As I take joy in my son, I am often reminded that even more so, does the Father delight in me!"

A meaningful gift...

"A baby is utterly helpless and dependent on her parents; there is not one thing that we need Tessa to do, while she needs us for everything. Yet she holds such a power over us: Her one little smile or the slightest giggle sets my heart a-flutter and I think I will cross the widest ocean for her. What is this? I think it's a brief glimpse at the heart of our heavenly Father!"
