Absolute poverty or destitution: Poverty is the lack of basic human needs,
such as clean and fresh water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing andshelter, because of the inability to afford them.
Relative poverty: The condition of having fewer resources or less income
than others within a society or country, or compared to worldwide averages.
The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor
Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the worlds 7 richestpeople combined.

2000 and yet it didnt happen.
1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world).
640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no
access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health
services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the
age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).
Almost half the world over 3 billion people live on lessthan $2.50 a day.

Racism has historically been defined as the belief that race is theprimary determinant of human capacities, that a certain race isinherently superior or inferior to others, and/or that individuals should betreated differently according to their racial designation
Racism is the belief that the genetic factors which constitute race, ethnicity, or nationality are a primary determinant of human traits andcapacities and that ethnic differences produce an inherent superiority of
a particular race Sometimes it is the lack of diversity in the area in which one
lives. Generally when people are unaccustomed to something they judgeit.
In India we can take the case of 19 October 2008 All-India RailwayRecruitment Board examination attack
Ignorance of other cultures, religions, and values may lead to racism.

Stereotypes:
Through television, through radio, through the internet, through music, throughbooks, and the like, the potential for stereo types to build are a definitepossibility. When a person, especially one that is very young, is exposed tostereotypes of a specific group for the first time, then that person will assumeall are that way. Likewise, when a source is constantly displaying negativethings about a particular race, then that will affect the overall opinions as
well.Selfishness
Selfishness is another obvious cause of racism. Humans are sometimes veryselfish creatures caring only about their own at the expense of others. Ifindividuals aren't taught how to respect others, then the potential for theperson to become racist is increased as well. This is why we will find thatmost caring individuals aren't racist. Neither are they sexist or anything else.
8/3/2019 Global Ethical Dilemma
18/25
Unfamiliarity
Another very common, and probably the most common cause of
racism is unfamiliarity. People fear what they do not know or
understand. If someone hasn't grown up around a particular race
before, then there is more of a chance the person can be racist
toward that particular group. Not all the time, but when the person
has already been fed negative stereotypes, and does not have the
actual real life experiences with at least one within the particular
group, then the chances of racism are increased. This is why it is
important for children to be around other races at a young age: to
ensure they get their minds used and adapted to being around them, and also to help counterbalance any false stereotypes they may
encounter in the future.
8/3/2019 Global Ethical Dilemma
19/25
Environmental FactorsThe lastly and probably the most surprising cause of racism is
environmental causes. We are all made different biologically and
genetically. Our physical environment can affect our biology and
therefore, in many cases, affect our minds. This does not mean freewill
and choice are not options, but that an individual's potential forracism could possibly be increased through certain environmental
factors unknown to man. By default, racism is non-existent. However,
things such as improper health maintenance, excess chemicals, head
injuries, or other factors may help contribute to it. This should not be
used as an excuse that racism has to persist, but more of a betterchance to cure racism by enhancing biological health and medical
technology, rather than thinking it can only be done by other means.

Environmental issues are negative aspects of human activity onthe biophysical environment.
Have significant impacts for large numbers of people
Are persistent, or long acting
Are interconnected
Causes:
Increased world population
Increased production and consumption of material goods
Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide accumulate in the
atmosphere and trap heat that normally would exit into outer space.
Loss of Biodiversity and Extinctions.

Global Warming:Global warming is one of the major issues we are being faced with. Theterm signifies an increase in the atmospheric temperature near theearths surface, which is caused by various reasons. Scientists are of theopinion that a rise in the carbon dioxide levels will further aggravate thesituation. The greenhouse effect causes the earths heat to be trapped inthe atmosphere, which results in the increase in temperature. Globalwarming has thus caused a change in the climate of the earth, causingtemperatures to rise. This in turn has an effect on various speciesdependant on the basic laws of nature. A change in the same makes
survival a difficult issue. A warmer earth also causes changes in therainfall patterns and thus affects humans, plants and animals as well.

CFCs are considered to be the main cause of ozone depletion.
The term, ozone depletion, implies a decline of the quantity of
the ozone in the Earths stratosphere. The loss of ozone in the
lower stratosphere was first recorded in Antarctica in the 1970s.
As we all know, the earths atmosphere is composed of many
layers and ozone forms a layer in the stratosphere.
Chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs for short, are used in aerosol
sprays as well as air conditioners. These when released into the
atmosphere add to the ozone depletion. The ozone hole in theAntarctic is caused primarily due to these CFCs. Due to ozone
depletion; humans are faced with various other problems such
as the harmful effects of the UV rays, which in turn affect plants
and various other species of animals.

We are directly affected by the global ethical dilemmas.
We cannot allow grass to grow under our feet. Similarly we
cannot gain the serenity and peace of mind once we loose it.
The world needs a perspective to act in anticipation and notwait till it is caught unawares.
Our future lies in our hands, we should judge the outcome of our
actions before acting on it.
