Map ProductionThe map provides flood evolution in space and time during the receding phase, after theflood peak reached the AOI, from August 4st to August 7th. Different persistence time (indays) is shown.The flood dynamics has been obtained implementing the TELEMAC-2D model on the S R TM1 arc-second DEM. The Telemac-2D code, a module of the TELEMAC-MAS CAR ET suite(www.opentelemac.org), solves depth-averaged de S aint-V enant free surface flow equations.The main results at each node of the computational mesh are the depth of water and thedepth-averaged velocity components. A TELEMAC-2D model variant developed by CIMA isused that models the dynamics of the drying phase, using LULC information to introduce aninfiltration parameter based on the S oil Conservation S ervice - Curve Number method (S CS -CN)The estimated geometric accuracy of the images is 2.5 m, from native positional accuracy ofthe background satellite image, compliant with JR C requirements for 1:10,000 cartography.The estimated thematic accuracy of this product is 85% or better, based on internal validationprocedures and visual interpretation of recognizable items on very high resolution opticalimagery.
Map InformationThe purpose of the requested mapping is to generate comprehensive knowledge at a postdisaster phase, referring to the flood on July 31st, August 1st and 2nd, 2014 in Mizia town(V ratsa region).The assessment includes an accurate research on the dynamics of the disaster in order tocontribute to a learning process from the behaviours observed (i.e. failures or successstories). Moreover, through a Flood R isk analysis assets at risk are identified (focusing onpopulation and infrastructure). Towards adequate disaster preparedness and efficient supportof informed decision making concerning planning and recovery activities of the involvedstakeholders, potential and ex tent of occurrence of secondary risks (landslides and soilerosion) is evaluated and risk - specific mitigation measures are proposed, along with thespecification of critical first response information.The key user of the map series is the Earth Observation Center (S MC), Ministry of Interior,Bulgaria.
